Don't worry. Together there is nothing we can't figure out and this place is much like home. I have a feeling that will work in our favor.
[There are so many things he wants to ask her. How is everyone at home? What happened after his death? Are the children okay? What of her? However, this isn't the time or place, especially with how uneasy she already is about their current situation.]
Have you talked to many others?
no subject
A few. I have been watching and listening to all I can here. It makes me wonder how much is being kept from us and what tricks are in store.
Yet I am more worried for the children than us, left unprotected so... I am sure Donnchad will care for the others as best as he is able, but I fear for them if there is an attack.

[Diarmuid sighs, his mind beginning to drift back specifically to the conversation he had with that strange magus. He is pulled from those thoughts, though, when Grainne mentions an attack.]
I don't understand. Why would there be an attack at home? Did something happen after my death?
no subject
Your...
[Grainne looks up at him with absolute terror on her face.]
The fae... killed... you?
no subject
[Diarmuid is shocked by her reaction for a moment before what is going on hits him and he swears under his breath. Because of her excited reaction to seeing him, he had assumed that she came from a time after his death, but that must obviously not be the cause.]
I am sorry. I thought...
[He shakes his head.]
Never mind what I thought. What were you doing right before you were brought here?
no subject
I was taking stock of the homestead and preparing for the twins' seventh year. Oisin had stopped by on his most recent journey last week.
[So about little less than a year before his death, give or take a few months.]
no subject
Much earlier than I guessed. I am sorry for mentioning it so bluntly. I didn't mean to upset you...
[Sadly, he knows that frown on her face and has a feeling he isn't going to get out of telling her how he died, but Diarmuid is certainly going to try in order to spare her the pain and anger he knows she will feel when she hears the details.]
no subject
Tell me. Have I been gone so long that someone killed you in battle, and you have ended up here?
no subject
No, I did not fall in battle and it wasn't anything to do with you. There was a geis placed upon me that I didn't know of, and I was placed into a situation where I could not avoid it any longer. Fionn knew of the geis, but he did not tell me until it was too late...
[It is not the full truth, but perhaps this vague version will be enough to satisfy her for now.]
no subject
Fionn? What... how... I thought he was banished from our lands. How did he even get near?
[Sorry, Diarmuid. No getting out of it.]
What is this geis?
[SHE WILL REMOVE IT IF SHE HAS TO.]
no subject
[Diarmuid reaches out to take her hands into his.]
The night the geis was laid on me was blocked from my memory. I only know of it now because that block was removed when I was brought back. When I was around six years old, Donn murdered my friend and the son of the Druid Roc who worked for my father. In retaliation, Roc turned his son into a monstrous boar and said that the boar would live only as long as I did. In other words, we would kill each other and it was that which came to pass that night.
no subject
Oh... I... those kinds of curses are... they are far beyond my level.
[She's going to be upset the rest of the night, now.]
I am sorry, dear heart.
no subject
Do not be sorry. It's not your fault. I am sure father tried to remove it and could not. Roc was very powerful. However, I don't blame Roc for what he did. He lost his son because of another man's jealousy. It should not have happened. The only one to blame is Donn.
no subject
[Grainne... is not comforted at all by that. She is distressed to the point of pinching her eyebrows together, a sure sign she would be going into a full blown fret complete with headache.]
I... I'm sorry.
no subject
[Diarmuid presses a kiss to the top of her head.]
Please do not be so distressed, beloved. We should not spend this time we have together so...
