The woman's voice draws him from errant musings and he turns, taking in her face, before they trail up to a pair of elegant horns. There is a faint glint of admiration in his golden gaze. ]
I am Nuada, called Silverlance, madam. [ He drops his head into a short, but graceful, bow. She is clearly not human and therefore more than worthy of proper manners. ] Son of Balor, ruling king of the Clan Bethmoora.

[Maleficent had been queen once, true, but it had been a stolen title made to mock that of her foe. If he could mutilate her for a throne, she could just make one of her own. It was hardly as if there was anyone to contest it.]
I am Maleficent of the Moors, though I suppose that means little here.
[She does not bow or curtsy, but she inclines her head and smiles. She's more pleasant to those of a distinctly non-human nature as she feels more of a kinship with them. Humans only seem to interest her if they're still young.]

[ Nuada does not expect to rule. His father is ancient, yes, but alive and it would take something catastrophic to knock the king from his throne. ]
Yours is not a name I am familiar with, no. Which moors do you claim as your own, lady? I have traveled far, perhaps enough to know yours.
[ Humans interest him when they are
deadknow their place. ]no subject
[Not since she'd given up the crown, that is.
The question brought a smile to her face and she tipped her head a little in acknowledgment.]
They are merely the Moors, a kingdom beside that of a human's. We are the fair folk and they are not. There are kingdoms beyond theirs that are human as well, so I believe we are one of the few, if not only kingdoms of our kind in my world. For you see, I believe we may come from differing ones. I have found there are many worlds and many strange types that come from them.

[ Someone has to keep an eye on those rebellious humans. And the ruling council are little more than faded relics of their former glory, so expecting help from that quarter is folly. ]
You have my condolences for having to deal with the mortals.
no subject
They are not all entirely bad.
[One. One was okay. The rest were a lost cause.]
You sound as if you are familiar with their ways.
no subject
Yes. They are. Soulless, greedy creatures who care not a whit for anything but themselves.
[ He frowns. ]
Entirely too familiar.

[Stefan had been exactly so, as had the man he's accepted the crown from. Aurora, on the other hand...]
My condolences.
[Which she meant truly, for if he was as bitter towards them as he sounded, he must have suffered as greatly as she had at their hands.]
no subject
Condolences for?
no subject
[This one seemed jaded, more so than she herself, and she answered honestly.]
For whatever loss you've suffered that has made you dislike them so.

[ He keeps his tone matter-of-fact, as Maleficent has done nothing to earn his wrath. ]
So they took up arms against us, took our lives and trees. Ravaged the land for more human settlements. That is what my people have suffered, Lady.

There is peace now, but you are right. It might only last a generation. I wish it would last longer, but... humans are... human.
no subject
[ This is one of the reasons Nuada chose to live in exile. ]
You've my sympathy as well. Perhaps yours will remember what honor is.

[She gestures towards the table they're beside.]
Have you no taste for food or wine? I'll admit that it's not quite what I'm used to, but as I'm only here for this occasion, I think a little indulgence is allowable.

[ He turns his head, glancing down at the spread placed out for those of all races, and commits his bitterness to the unreachable places of his soul. ]
I have not given it much thought, beyond finding something suitably edible. Does the lady have any suggestions?
no subject
[She pointed to a delicate glass decanter that was filled with a light liquid.]
The food here is more directed towards those familiar with humans. The fairies here are... different from those I know.
no subject
[ He chooses a simple glass, then reads the labels until one has writing that makes sense to him, and pours some of the red-gold liquid into the selected container. ]
Human food. I suppose some of it is edible, though they aren't very good at using herbs.

[ Well, it's a little more technical and complicated than that, but the explanation will do for now. ]
But your point is taken.

[This from the fairy who went around healing trees. Yes, she was attuned to the land around her, enough so back home that her moods could affect them without her knowing.]
no subject
[ This from the prince of elfland, who exiled himself on purposes. ]
