[ She catches him near one of the sideboards, laden with enough food to feed a village for a week, head tilted as he examines a bottle of wine. The label is worn smooth with age - frustratingly hard to decipher. Not goblin, nor troll, nor tree-spirit. None of the languages he is accustomed to, or any of the human tongues beside. A small part of him hopes to find his sister here. But it is a very small part; no doubt she is with their father, safe at court. Where she belongs.

The woman's voice draws him from errant musings and he turns, taking in her face, before they trail up to a pair of elegant horns. There is a faint glint of admiration in his golden gaze. ]

I am Nuada, called Silverlance, madam. [ He drops his head into a short, but graceful, bow. She is clearly not human and therefore more than worthy of proper manners. ] Son of Balor, ruling king of the Clan Bethmoora.

A prince. I'm finding that royalty is a concept for those not of humanity in other regions.

[Maleficent had been queen once, true, but it had been a stolen title made to mock that of her foe. If he could mutilate her for a throne, she could just make one of her own. It was hardly as if there was anyone to contest it.]

I am Maleficent of the Moors, though I suppose that means little here.

[She does not bow or curtsy, but she inclines her head and smiles. She's more pleasant to those of a distinctly non-human nature as she feels more of a kinship with them. Humans only seem to interest her if they're still young.]

A concept? Pray explain further, I am not entirely sure of your meaning.

[ Nuada does not expect to rule. His father is ancient, yes, but alive and it would take something catastrophic to knock the king from his throne. ]

Yours is not a name I am familiar with, no. Which moors do you claim as your own, lady? I have traveled far, perhaps enough to know yours.

[ Humans interest him when they are dead know their place. ]

Where I am from, those of our kind, if you are of the fair folk, do not have kings or princes or queens.

[Not since she'd given up the crown, that is.

The question brought a smile to her face and she tipped her head a little in acknowledgment.]

They are merely the Moors, a kingdom beside that of a human's. We are the fair folk and they are not. There are kingdoms beyond theirs that are human as well, so I believe we are one of the few, if not only kingdoms of our kind in my world. For you see, I believe we may come from differing ones. I have found there are many worlds and many strange types that come from them.

In my world, they do.

[ Someone has to keep an eye on those rebellious humans. And the ruling council are little more than faded relics of their former glory, so expecting help from that quarter is folly. ]

You have my condolences for having to deal with the mortals.
curser: (Dark - Look 5)

[personal profile] curser 2014-11-12 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Well. Where had he been when she'd been at the height of her rage and distrust against the humans, mm?]

They are not all entirely bad.

[One. One was okay. The rest were a lost cause.]

You sound as if you are familiar with their ways.

[personal profile] folklorish 2014-11-12 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
[ In a different realm, clearly. If he had access to hers, there would be far less humans living there now. ]

Yes. They are. Soulless, greedy creatures who care not a whit for anything but themselves.

[ He frowns. ]

Entirely too familiar.
curser: (Dark - Look 4)

[personal profile] curser 2014-11-12 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Unless you teach them otherwise, perhaps, yes, they are.

[Stefan had been exactly so, as had the man he's accepted the crown from. Aurora, on the other hand...]

My condolences.

[Which she meant truly, for if he was as bitter towards them as he sounded, he must have suffered as greatly as she had at their hands.]

Teach them? [ Genuine amusement laces his voice, though the mirth does not quite reach his eyes. Semi-genuine, then. ] They are unteachable. One generation perhaps, but they forget.

Condolences for?
curser: (Dark - Upper body shot 1)

[personal profile] curser 2014-11-12 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Then you teach them again. Or not. I suppose it depends on how invested you are in changing them.

[This one seemed jaded, more so than she herself, and she answered honestly.]

For whatever loss you've suffered that has made you dislike them so.

We tried. We signed treaties, my people and the humans. We were to get the forests, and their kings would keep them in the cities. But humans are greedy. They want more and more.

[ He keeps his tone matter-of-fact, as Maleficent has done nothing to earn his wrath. ]

So they took up arms against us, took our lives and trees. Ravaged the land for more human settlements. That is what my people have suffered, Lady.
curser: (Dark - Look 5)

[personal profile] curser 2014-11-12 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I sympathize. We had much the same problems until recently. The kingdom alongside ours was ever greedy for more land, more riches. There were battles fought and blood shed and we held our land. There is no need to sign a 'treaty' when they have no claim to anything but what little they sit on.

There is peace now, but you are right. It might only last a generation. I wish it would last longer, but... humans are... human.

They are a scourge on the surface of the world, forgetting the gods and everything else holy in their bid for supremacy. And in the face of this wanton destruction, his Majesty upholds the ancient truce.

[ This is one of the reasons Nuada chose to live in exile. ]

You've my sympathy as well. Perhaps yours will remember what honor is.
curser: (Smile - 2)

[personal profile] curser 2014-11-12 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps. We can only wait and see, yes?

[She gestures towards the table they're beside.]

Have you no taste for food or wine? I'll admit that it's not quite what I'm used to, but as I'm only here for this occasion, I think a little indulgence is allowable.

[personal profile] folklorish 2014-11-13 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, you speak truth.

[ He turns his head, glancing down at the spread placed out for those of all races, and commits his bitterness to the unreachable places of his soul. ]

I have not given it much thought, beyond finding something suitably edible. Does the lady have any suggestions?
curser: (Dark - Curious 1)

[personal profile] curser 2014-11-13 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
That all depends on what you've a taste for. The honey-wine is too sweet for my palette, though I do like the sparkling fizzy wine they have. It has bubbles that tickle the tongue.

[She pointed to a delicate glass decanter that was filled with a light liquid.]

The food here is more directed towards those familiar with humans. The fairies here are... different from those I know.

[personal profile] folklorish 2014-11-13 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
It has been a very long time since I have tasted the sweetness of mead.

[ He chooses a simple glass, then reads the labels until one has writing that makes sense to him, and pours some of the red-gold liquid into the selected container. ]

Human food. I suppose some of it is edible, though they aren't very good at using herbs.
curser: (Body shot - Profile 1)

[personal profile] curser 2014-11-13 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Likely as not because they barely have the sense of taste and smell that others do. I'm not certain as to your limits, but humans can't seem to hear the whispers of the trees or smell rain before it comes. It's not surprising they have to use too much of any one thing to get its taste.

My people are connected to the earth. Listening to Her song is second nature to us.

[ Well, it's a little more technical and complicated than that, but the explanation will do for now. ]

But your point is taken.
curser: (Smile - 1)

[personal profile] curser 2014-11-15 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Nature's voice is something they seem to have turned their ears from. A sad fate for them, then.

[This from the fairy who went around healing trees. Yes, she was attuned to the land around her, enough so back home that her moods could affect them without her knowing.]
folklorish: (Default)

[personal profile] folklorish 2014-11-19 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
It is a sad fate for anyone, my lady.

[ This from the prince of elfland, who exiled himself on purposes. ]

So, now that you are here, what will you do? Will you pick up the cause these kings and queens say we must? Or shall you do something of your own volition?
folklorish: (Default)

[personal profile] folklorish 2014-11-22 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
I have not decided. For now, I intend to learn how things work.

That seems wise. Better than the rashness of running in uninformed.
