[Tristran has given up trying to find Yvaine at the party. If she was there he would know it. That strange, unknown part of him that simply knew where things were would have sensed the star by then, and he would have found her, and together they would have begun making their way... somewhere.

He has come out to try to clear his head, to look at the night sky and try to find answers. He wasn't planning on encountering anyone else.]

Oh. I'm terribly sorry. Is this your balcony?

[ the apology and inquiry earns a bright, chiming laugh, and varda shakes her head once, smile warm as she glances to him. ]

No, I am as newly arrived as you yourself seem to be. [ she dips her chin briefly, polite and welcoming. ] I simply needed the night sky and the breeze. [ though it had brought more melancholy than anything-- but at least this new arrival is distraction enough from such things. ]

[He tries to copy her gesture of greeting, but it looks clumsy in comparison. This Lady very clearly isn't Yvaine, but the faerie side of him can sense something similar and it isn't just the fact that she seems to glow just as the star did. Just looking at her, he can half-hear Yvaine singing the clear, ageless songs that constellations danced to through the sky. The faerie side could have wept for joy at seeing something like her so close. But the human side of him -the side that was entirely the son of Dunstan Thorn, sheep farmer from Wall and entirely Victorian as well- knew that reaction to be both silly and impolite.]

They are very nice here. The stars, I mean. They are always the same, even if the constellations are different.

[ she smiles at the comment, head tilting faintly. ] In some ways, I suppose they must seem to be.

[ she beckons him closer, then glances back up, eyes sliding shut. ] For me, though, these stars have different songs. They move together in great harmony, but they are not the songs that I gave them.

[ her eyes open once more, gaze knowing as it meets his. ]

I feel as if you, too, have heard a star's melody.

[He nods, feeling so very small and insignificant next to her. Yet somehow thinking about Yvaine makes it a little less so.]

Her name is Yvaine, ma'am, but she is not here yet.

[He will know the moment that she is.]
