[shinjiro knows that voice; he nearly drops his locket in surprise when she addresses him. he isn't entirely sure how to react, or what to say. he's in shock. carefully, he stands from the couch to face her, wondering just how to break whatever silence he's already created. he doesn't even want to think this is real -- he was dead. should be dead. but he's spoken to junpei, and now she's here.

reality can be a real pain in the ass.

he takes a few steps toward haruka, hands tucked into the pockets of his peacoat. there's an overwhelming amount of emotions welling up inside him that he isn't comfortable with. he can't even manage the words he wants to say to her. when he speaks, his voice is soft, nearly sad.]

...You.

[She opens her mouth, closes it, and swallows as her mouth goes suddenly dry. What on earth can she say to him? A million possibilities go through Haruka's head, but they all sound stupid or inadequate. She tries for a small smile, but it doesn't feel right on her face.]

...Me. It's...been a long time.

[Forever, it feels like, since the last time she saw his face in person. Haruka clears her throat, hoping that'll help get some more words out.]

I've missed you.

[feels like minutes, to him. he doesn't know what else she's been through after he died. maybe knowing that SEES continued to take down shadows was enough. he didn't know if ken ended up being okay. watching someone die is a hard thing to do.

he closes most of the distance between then, reaching up to give her a comforting pat on her head. her hair is soft, just as he remembered.]

You haven't changed a bit.

[The smile starts to feel more genuine at the familiarity of the pat on her head. Some of her old cheer starts coming back to her.]

Nope. Only thing that's changed is that the Dark Hour doesn't exist anymore.

[Haruka can't help feeling pride and affection for her friends at SEES who made that possible. If it hadn't been for them fighting alongside her on the front lines, she doesn't think she would've had the courage needed to take that final step. Though, she neglects to mention that the other change is that she'll no longer be there to really celebrate that victory.]

[wait. his eyes widen momentarily, brow quirking.]

[he tucks his hand back into his pocket, taking a step back. he's ... shocked. but proud, and relieved.]
