[ she brightens rather suddenly. ] Oh! Is that what it's called? A toaster! I would never have guessed that. I thought, maybe a recipe card holder, or a really weirdly shaped flower pot, but no! It's a toaster!

[ she's still getting used to this whole 'meeting people' thing. ]

[He blinks, staring at the toaster. He can... vaguely remember something like it, but it was different, and it feels almost unreal. Still, there is something.]

You have to plug it in.

[gleamed]

[ she nods, like she has any idea what that means. ]

Uhuh. Plug it in...and, um, where do I plug it in?

[wipedclean]

[He frowns. It takes him a moment to remember.]

A socket.

[gleamed]

[ she knows conceptually what a socket is, but a toaster-specific one? hmm.

she examines the appliance again. ] I see...it's got this slot in the top - oh, and this! [ she uncurls the cord. surely it must be important! ]

[wipedclean]

[He watches her look it over. It looks a little strange to him, though he's not sure why.]

But why do you have it?

[gleamed]

Because...I liked it? [ she doesn't really have a better reason than that. ]

[wipedclean]

[Oh.

He blinks.]

But you didn't know what it was.

[gleamed]

Nope! But now I do. Thanks to you!

[He nods once, uncertain of how else to respond. He's not really sure he was all that helpful.

He's also not sure what to do now. He shifts and looks away, his gaze catching on her very long hair.

That really is a lot of hair.]

Why is your hair so long?

[gleamed]

Oh! [ oh. oh no. it's THAT question. the one everyone asks, but the one she tiptoes around all the same. maybe she SHOULDN'T be so worried about people finding out about what her hair could do, but after years of having it instilled in her by her mother, it's a hard habit to break. ]

Um - I'm...just! Afraid ooooof...scissors! Yep. Devastatingly afraid of scissors. That's all! Yep. Definitely all there is to it.

[wipedclean]

[The way she answers is definitely off, but maybe this is something he shouldn't pry into. It's not that important, it's just hair, and maybe she really is afraid of scissors.

He'll let it go for now.]
