[Steve's a little bit sheepish but...they've been friends since practically forever.]

[He tilts his head and looks up at the mistletoe then back at Steve. He raises his eyebrows.]

You care that much about tradition?

[starspangled]

Some are nice. Some are more like rules. Meant to be broken.

[wipedclean]

[He snorts softly and looks back up at the mistletoe.]

So which is this?

[Steve purses his lips, pretending to be thoughtful.]

I think I might have to decide that after the kiss.

[wipedclean]

[He looks back at Steve in surprise, then looks away, a sense of nervousness clutching at his chest.]

...I'm out of practice.

[starspangled]

It's okay. I've been told that I could use some practice myself.

[Steve hesitates.]

I mean, if you wanna. If you don't, that's fine too.

[wipedclean]

[He's quiet for a moment, looking at Steve, before he finally answers.]

I want to.

[starspangled]

[Steve sighs, shoulders relaxing.]

Okay. Wanna kiss me, or want me to kiss you?

[wipedclean]

[He hesitates, then steps forward once, then again, closing the distance between them. He hesitates again, then reaches his hand behind Steve's neck, resting it there, his thumb gently rubbing through the short hairs.]

Gotta practice somehow.

[It feels right. Maybe there's muscle memory for more things than fighting. He takes a breath and leans in to press his lips gently against Steve's.]

[Steve arches a brow at that. He's watched Bucky kiss enough girls under the mistletoe, he's not doubting his skills.

His own, maybe. But he still cups his face the moment their lips touch, because that's what feels natural to him. A kiss should never be "just" a kiss.]

[wipedclean]

[There's a tightening feeling in his chest as the kiss lingers, and he realizes... he realizes he's wanted to do this for... a very long time.

He pulls back not long after that. But not far.

With his hand still on the back of Steve's neck, he looks at him a little nervously.]

That okay?

[desperate_times]

[Well, would you look at that! More people stuck under mistletoe.]

What's wrong, gorgeous? You don't look very happy.

[Has he ever?]

[wipedclean]

[He sighs, staring up at the mistletoe.]

Don't like being forced to do things.

[desperate_times]

Most people don't.

[She steps closer and looks at the mistletoe.]

You know there's only one way out of this trap, don't you?

[wipedclean]

[He nods, looking down at her.

Well. It's been a long time.

He can't possibly have been this nervous about this kind of thing before.]

[desperate_times]

[She stares up at him; into his sad puppy dog eyes. Such a handsome face. And such soft looking lips.]

.... What? Have I got something on my face?

[wipedclean]

[The corners of his mouth twitch upward slightly, because okay, that... was kind of funny. He ducks his head slightly and shakes his head.]

It's been a long time.

[desperate_times]

[Good! Then the joke had the right effect. Sometimes joking with him is hit or miss... mostly miss.

Before he finishes that sentence, Chloe steps forward, puts her arms around his neck, and swoops in to plant her lips against his. She probably doesn't need to press her body against his in the process, but.. why not? Kissing is an art! She's not going to just peck at him. She's not the pecking type.]

[It's a total surprise, and usually he and surprises don't mesh well together, but some kind of memory prompts him to circle his arm around her waist and return the kiss... if a bit hesitantly.]

[Oh good, she didn't get stabbed. She'll count that as a win.

And he's even returning the kiss, which is a bonus. Though he could do with more confidence. Luckily, Chloe is perfectly confident kissing a man she's only spoken to a handful of times. Her lips stay on his, kissing, parting a little; it's not exactly chaste, but she is the adventurous type.

This is probably more than enough to satisfy a plant. But... well, if he wants to stop kissing, he can do something about it.]

[He feels how her lips part, and there's a split second where he feels the urge to push forward, make it deeper, take the invitation she's offering and run with it...

...but he's startled back into himself by how natural it feels, and he pulls away, stepping back and looking away awkwardly.]

[desperate_times]

[The kiss parts with a sound of lips broken too soon. Much too soon, in her opinion, but she's not unhappy with it all.

She presses her lips together and makes a smacking noise.]

Mmm. Better than I expected. I thought you'd be frigid.

[That pun was entirely on accident; not that she knows any better. But the kiss should have set him free.]

Well? Can you move about?

[wipedclean]

[He takes a breath and takes a couple more steps, moving in a slow, continuously widening circle. When he's satisfied he's not trapped anymore, he nods.]
