Ah. [ That makes slightly more sense. He sets aside the problem of time differentials for the moment, it needs to be thought about more. ] Did I ferry you across the lake?
gloinul: (Proud)

[He can't help it. He chuckles]

No, no you were far too busy with other things--and by then, Erebor had its own ferry service of a sort.

[ To grow roses. That's so...romantic that she actually laughs softly, gently, because that is just like Edgar, isn't it. Sweet and tender. And, frankly, it sounds so much more normal than people coming here to use their 'phones' and 'internet'.

Her hands tighten on his. ]

I'm glad to see you are too. How long have you been here? I did not see you at the court.

[At any other moment, Èlise might marvel at the sight of magic being worked, real magic. But she's a practical person, and there's nothing more practical than preserving one's own life.]

You think very highly of yourself, don't you? I wasn't following anyone! If anything, I was lost in these damned woods!

"Hasn't it," Irene says smoothly, drawing her over to a drinks table manned by a fae-fair woman whose skin is covered all over in blue tattoos. She feels better the moment she gets to be in charge of something, even some minor social interaction; it slows her heart, makes her feel less like she's going to drown in her surroundings.

"Sounds like you'd do well to start with spirits, my dear—" And then she pauses, noticing Caroline's hands, her red mouth dropping open. "Hell. Are you alright?"

[That's...

a very strange reaction...]

Are you saying that it... wasn't an accident?

[Aerich noticed the child, young enough that he has to double-check to see if she's human or Easterner. Of course, then he notices the horn, and a hair color that isn't typically found on either, which causes him to reassess.]

[Either way, she appeared to be without a guardian, and clearly struggling with furniture sized for larger people. That and her age might forgive the mess she was making of the pastry.]

[Wordlessly, he slid the plate closer to her.]

[OOC: It's not visible from his icons, but he's like 8 feet tall.]

[ That...stops her quite handily, her expression freezing up as she watches the woman closely. The grip on her staff loosens just enough so she can pull back, setting the weapon in the moss and the earth and behind her, out of casting range. She draws herself up, both propriety and pride keeping her straight-backed as she addresses her. ]

My apologies. I am...not used to being on my own. I mistook you for someone looking for me.

[ Or for a beast or a monster. She is so used to traveling with friends, with a clan, with soldiers that it has made her more sensitive to the dangers around her. ]

I was only hoping to protect myself.
liven: (UGH ► not this shit again.)

You can't taste despair in ham.

[ The voice comes, oddly enough, from above. Shijima likes being high up when she can be, but she drops out of the rafters after she speaks, landing easily on her feet like the cat she was born as. Standing upright, she's barely four foot six - and she rarely stands upright, instead slouching forward lazily, her white hair a tangle over her shoulders. ]

Or anything ominous. That's idiotic.

[ But interesting enough for her to comment on it, even as she patiently waits for what she suspects will be an absurd explanation. ]

[personal profile] gandere 2015-01-04 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it most likely was an accident, but who am I to say if it was or wasn't? [ Only the person responsible, but details. ]

I just happened on the scene shortly before they took their leave.

[ korra looks at naga.

who looks back.

and then they both look at oreki.

nope, nothing wrong here. ]

Uh, okay? So, you're all right?
wipedclean: (and call them brothers)

[personal profile] wipedclean 2015-01-04 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

[He has no idea where or what Kyrat is, but he knows the answer well enough to respond quickly.]

It's called the Drabwurld.

[ It was a sensible guess, okay? Gimli's idiot relatives are still pissing off a dragon as far as Bard is concerned. ]

That settles that, then. I hope the impression I left wasn't entirely negative.

[ Another guess. He's not known as 'grim' by the other locales for nothing. ]

[The only reason Waver is at Caer Scima is to return a horse. He needed to send a student somewhere safer, and had said he'd return the creature she rode out on when it was safe to do so. When promises made to him were fulfilled.

So Waver does just that, and it coincides with the feast.

He makes a point to be quick. A little meat, some vegetables, and out. Minimal talking.

Except when he hears deadpan commentary, he's drawn like a moth to a flame. At Dorian's words, he slips out from the little column he's hidden behind to add his own two cents.]

Go for the pheasant then, if you really want something miserable.

[personal profile] conservationist 2015-01-04 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's finally happened. Oreki feels intrinsically motivated to solve a mystery.]

I... see.

And... since you arrived while they were still here. Who was this dastardly character?

[personal profile] conservationist 2015-01-04 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ye--- wait, uh. No. Still kidnapped, just--

Likewise, Hermione. I'm sorry if I acted rashly.

[ It is so strange to be alone. Once, she'd had her clan; then, she'd had her companions, the soldiers and the scouts. They say a lone elf is a dead elf, constantly in danger from Templars, from Chantry fanatics, and from the test of the wilds themselves. She is not afraid for her safety against the latter, but this world is unknown to her, and she does not know friend from foe. Not yet.

But Hermione seems kind enough not to hold a grudge, which she is thankful for. Her gaze brightens up at the mention of potions. ]

I, too, am looking for supplies. [ And artifacts, anything to help her, but that she will keep to herself. ] I was hoping to find whatever is necessary here to help make potions, poultices...anything that I can use outside of the castle or for those who may need it. Have you been successful in gathering?

elizabeth of york | the white queen | unseelie

[personal profile] skjalf 2015-01-04 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Unseelie Feast
( when she had consented to come here, she had not anticipated that she might be sliding out of the frying pan and directly into the cooking fire. now she is stuck in the midst of another war. her uncle, whom she'd thought would marry her and make her a queen now lies dead in the dried field at bosworth. does she feel grief? yes. beneath the numbness which has settled in for the time being, surely a result of shock. but it does her more credit here than a detriment.

elizabeth is detached enough from the horror which has so recently occurred at home that she is able to see the silver lining in this conflict: that being her family is not at all involved. both sides are comprised of strangers. and she, for once, may be able to use what charm and grace she has to uplift herself for once. and not her relations. she takes to it with diligence, first taking a turn to request a more familiar tune be played to accompany the meal, which she accompanies with song, her voice low and sweet.

she eats heartily afterward, and then rises from her seat to offer a hand to anyone either being a wallflower or seated by themselves, smiling warmly. )

Come now, surely I cannot properly enjoy such splendour on my own. Would you join me in a dance, so as we both might do so?

( and if none choose to dance, then she will listen to the conversations occurring all around her, to gain a better idea as what sort of people she is to deal with on a daily basis. she will hope to hear something she might use to her advantage. )

2. The Station
( the technology in this place is far beyond what she is used to. and for the moment, she would rather not think too deeply on the moving pictures or other wonders she has seen people looking at today. not yet. but when clothing, bright and beautiful catches her eye through a window, she is, of course, immediately drawn to the sight much as a moth to a flame. pretty things have ever been a weakness of hers. she flits about what (appears) to be the women's side of the shop, somewhat confused as to why there are so many trousers.

however when she locates a rack of gowns, she pulls down every last one and takes them all back to the stalls where she might try them on. nobody has told her aught about the concept of modern sizes, so when she emerges in a lovely green gown that hangs off of her like a paper bag, she stares rather impassively into the mirror. )

Well, this is odd. I have not missed any meals or been terribly active of late. ( which means she ought to be respectably plump, like most renaissance women of station should be. this is most disconcerting! )

3. Out and about
( properly attired now in what might pass for an acceptable riding habit, elizabeth races across a grassland she cannot name. but it is flat and lovely, and this is the most freedom she has enjoyed since well before her father's untimely death. her aim is not to do any hunting, as she has no hound with her at the moment. but rather to enjoy the day, and perhaps race anyone she might come across. just because. )

4. Wildcard!
Leave a prompt please!

[ Erik returns to the main fortress at Caer Scima for one reason alone; to check to see whether or not there is anyone he should be concerned about stepping foot within the walls. He has no doubt that some of his enemies would find themselves here, rather than with Charles in the Seelie lands, and so he steps foot without much care, glancing around and frowning. No one feels familiar (for all that he can recall the touch of people's metal after ten years, even he struggles sometimes) and he walks through, determined to check, at least, in case he was mistaken.

The voice draws him from his own thoughts, though, and he quirks an eyebrow, unable to resist; ]

[ Well, aren't you a little... thing. Dorian tilts his head at her entrance, more amused than anything else. Can't say he's too surprised when he's not sure if this place is the Fade. ]

Oh, trust me, it's possible. Don't know how they do it, but it's quite remarkable.

[ Dorian shrugs, finishing off his tiny appetizer before looking down at the girl. ]

Most Orlesian hams are all about presentation, but the taste underneath is quite foul. Something about metaphor and the Grand Game, I imagine.

[ he knows well enough that she didn't really want to know about his taste in hams, but he's more than happy to hear himself talk. ]

Fenris has long since been spoiled by the exquisite vintage of wines in his stolen basement. He stares into his own cup now as though it had somehow debased his mother and insulted the shape of his toes in one go. Rude, that.

"I have my doubts," he grouses, "though I will have to take your word on the quality of nug piss." Hell, keeping in mind some of the taverns Fenris has visited, he probably has his own experiences with it that he doesn't actually know about. Never mind that, though, he settles on one of the stools next to Varric. "What are you doing here, dwarf?"

Fenris is significantly less comfortable in this place, but Fenris is never comfortable anywhere, more than half of which is his own stubborn doing. Still... at least it's not Kirkwall.

Oh, you know? Someone?

About this tall--[ Waving her hand up and down in an impossible gauge of measurement. ]--with a sinister look on their face. It was horrifying.

Awe? [ He looks confused for a moment, then decides the dwarf means the mountain. Which is fairly awe-inspiring. ] Moving to a new home is an adventure, I suppose.

Especially one as fabled as Erebor.
