Cullen Rutherford | Dragon Age: Inquisition | Seelie
[ From one party that he desperately did not want to attend, right to another. At the very least, this time it would seem that no one was paying him all that much notice.
He takes a small plate of food, before attempting to find the most inconspicuous area that he could, observing, so that he can perhaps better understand the exact nature of the place he has found himself in.
(The fact that this doesn't even constitute the strangest position he's found himself in is rather less than comforting.)
He wonders, not for the first if it might all be a dream, some trick of the Fade that one of Corypheus' agents had concocted for them all. But no, he remembers all too well the feeling of demons in your mind, and this seemed to be something else entirely.
He frowns, as he debates whether it is truly wise to consume anything that he is given here. ]
02.
[ Of all the places in this Drabwurld, this "Station" was by far the strangest. It appeared that magic had little influence here, yet there were wonders upon wonders. ]
03.
[ If there was one thing that might help normalize this entire experience, it was practice drills.
After all, potential sparring partners were ihardly scarce here, were they not? ]
3, hope this is all right!
And it's here that she stumbles across a familiar sight. She offers him a smile as she approaches. ]
You wouldn't mind a mage partner, would you, Commander?
3, more than alright! 8D
Then, certainly it increased their odds of success, whatever that meant in this world. ]
Hardly. Especially if that mage happens to be the Inquisitor herself.
[ It will also give him a chance to test his abilities, or rather, what did or did not remain of them. At Skyhold, it had never been among his concerns regarding Lyrium, for there were almost always other templars to run those sorts of drills with the mages, but here...
Still, it was best not to dwell upon it. Not until it was truly needed. ]
It is a relief to see a familiar face.
no subject
Likewise. I had been concerned that I was the only one brought here. I thought it might make me look incredibly irresponsible if I vanished on my own.
[ Especially after all the work they'd put into their efforts in Skyhold. Nasrin leans briefly on her staff. ]
You...haven't seen anyone else, then.
no subject
It has been known to happen before, though it was hardly your fault. [ And more that of a certain Darkspawn magister and what may or may not be an Archdemon. ] At least this time, it would seem that Corypheus is not to blame.
[ And just as quickly, his smile fades into a slight frown. ]
I haven't.
[ And that worried him. The last thing he could recall before this all began was the Winter Palace, and Empress Celene's impending assassination. Regardless of the explanations that were given, none of it sat well with him. ]
no subject
[ To hear him confirm that this is not Corypheus' doing is enough for her. She had assumed, had hoped...but it's good to know that someone shares her sentiment. This is an entirely new predicament, for better or worse, and she can only hope that things will improve for them in the coming days.
Being conscripted into a war, anyone's war, is unsettling enough.
Her frown matches his and she sighs, shaking her head. She casts her gaze to the ground for a moment, gathering herself, and then she looks up once more. ]
I can only hope that they are safe where they are, then, and able to hold out until we return. Cassandra and Leliana will know what to do.
[ They were far more capable leaders than she could be. They founded the Inquisition, after all. ]
01
Still, she felt she had to speak to someone. Perhaps he wouldn't even remember her (or know her, depending on what he'd experienced).
Bethany approached, appearing as nonthreatening as possible, though she did carry her staff at her back.]
Ser Cullen, isn't it?
Re: 01
As he spoke, his voice might have betrayed that shock. ]
Mistress Bethany?
[ The Champion's younger sister, and a mage that he had brought to the Gallows personally. He cannot help but feel a twinge of regret, much like he always did when he thought of Kirkwall.
Still, there was little that could be done now. ]
no subject
Yes. I thought it was you.
[Naturally, she had seen him about while she was a prisoner of the Circle.]
These are strange circumstances to meet again. Still, it's good to know I'm not the only one stuck here.
What do you make of all this?
o1
It's not poisoned, I promise.
no subject
(Though he should remind himself that this isn't Orlais)
He begins a protest. ]
I didn't say...
[ But that somewhat rude, was it not? And he had been eyeing it with the same suspicion he had once cast upon all mages. ]
...Forgive me. I'm still trying to make sense of it all. If I did not know better, I would almost say that this is all a trick of the Fade.
[ It doesn't occur to him that she might not even know what that is. ]
no subject
[ No, she doesn't know what the Fade is, but if she goes by 'trick' she can assume it's something spiritual or magical. Something she's familiar with, at least, which is better than nothing at all.
She might be one of the better people to help here, then, if he's worried about magic being involved somehow. Hermione tries to be the voice of reason whenever she possibly can. ]
It's no trick. All of this is real, and the food is very good.
[ And then she holds out her hand. ]
Hermione Granger.
no subject
[ His voice is hesitant. From her accent, she sounds Fereldan, which puts him more at ease than perhaps it should. ]
Do we even know exactly where... here is?
[ He pauses for a moment, hastily setting his food aside before taking her hand. ]
Forgive me. Commander Cullen, of the Inquisition. Despite the circumstances, I... thank you for your kind words, Mistress [ ??? ] Hermione.
[ He still doesn't quite feel at ease, but it's a start, isn't it? ]
no subject
[ She glances around before her eyes lift to look at him and she offers him the best smile she can. ]
This is called the Drabworld. I hadn't heard about it until I turned up here, but I've learned quite a bit since then.
[ Her hand squeezes his gently. ]
It's nice to meet you, Commander Cullen - and it's just Hermione, really. I'll answer any questions you have if I can?
1.
no subject
[ Of everyone that he could have been expecting... ]
Why are you-
[ No, he really shouldn't question why Cole was here. The boy was... something that could probably slip easily enough wherever he wished to go.
Still, despite the inevitable headache that he was almost certain the boy would inadvertently cause, seeing a familiar face was comforting. He offers the briefest of smiles, before returning to the matter at hand. ]
Never mind that. You think that we can... trust them? Trust all of this?
[ After all, Cole does have a way with people. ]
no subject
He tilts his head, large hat swaying with the motion. ]
No, maybe? [ Lips upturn into a frown, small lines forming on his brow. ] I don't know, they are bright, too bright, like staring at the sun. It's hard to see. [ It hurts to look, so he stops, closes his eyes and pulls himself away from them too bright. Shine, shine, she shines so bright, she must shine for Shade to be. ]
03
Charter curse it- [Sabriel swore again under her breath- then sighed, and prepared to start all over again.]
I totally don't have an entire world state with everyone named after characters from tok...
You're letting your guard down.
[ Old habits die hard, perhaps. The girl was clearly frustrated, and he wasn't even her commander.
Still, that didn't change the fact that if that was a real enemy, she might very well have made a slight mistake that could cause her harm. ]
It's always great to meet more people who know the series!
Better?
