/so sorry but gets in line XD;
Bethany Hawke did know him, though, and when she spotted him, her heart swelled with relief. She thought her eyes might be deceiving her, so she got politely closer for a look. Once she was certain it was the dwarf, she called out to him.
"Varric, it is you! Thank the Maker. I've been wandering around without seeing a single soul from Kirkwall. I thought I might be trapped here alone."

To Varric, Bethany Hawke was like the little sister he never had. Sure, she had foot on him, but that didn't stop him from doing his part to keep his eye out on her. He'd been doing that since day one. He might have been expecting the elder Hawke, but he was pleased to see the younger just as much.

"Have you heard from my brother? I haven't seen him. Not since Kirkwall. But if you've been in touch with him, it would be a relief." She knows Varric is a good friend and cares about him enough to watch out for him.
no subject
Varric didn't think of himself as being terribly Unseelie, but Bethany was too sweet of a girl to be anything but a Seelie.
no subject
"The Seelie." Right as usual, Varric. "I take it from the way you said it, you're with the Unseelie?" Though he's not really the type to cooperate unless he wants to. Good luck with that Unseelie.

Right about now he was hoping for some Champion or Inquisitor to show up and start talking sense.

"I'm not fond of the idea of taking up arms in a war I don't fully understand. What will you do? Stay here?"

Lothering. Kirkwall. And now this.
At the last, she smiles and reaches over to squeeze his arm. "Varric, don't talk such nonsense. You're not old at all."
no subject
Varric had dived into this lifestyle young. He'd been in his early thirties when he'd first met Hawke. But now he'd reached forty and it was a hard thing contemplating starting over in this world.
no subject
"Well, I won't hear one word from your spine." She smiles. "Maybe you could use some help here?" Not because he's old, of course.
