1 - Unseelie
He's right in his element, flirtatious and playful, and with more than a few drinks in him Johnny Storm's showing off party tricks, flames dancing to life at his fingertips, cleverly, painlessly licking the edges of beautiful faces -- Johnny's never felt more alive, delighted by the energy of the vast banquet hall and the overflowing abundance of food.
He's not altogether irresponsible, even if he's largely reckless and impulsive (so often to his own detriment). He'd sent out an alert to Sue and Reed earlier on, hoping that they'd receive it and come to him, wherever they are; but right now, the world's his oyster and he fully intends to take advantage of it. He threads through the crowd easily, plucking a flute of champagne from a passing waiter's tray, deftly hiding a deeper curiosity about this court and its workings underneath a wicked smile and a cavalier exterior.
Coming up beside a stranger, he clinks his glass lightly with theirs, looking ahead. ] How's it gonna fly if I told you to take me to your king? Or queen. Whoever rules this place.
no subject
The person who turns to look at him pauses, eying him curiously for a moment, but she's already fallen for this trick once when a musketeer who looked a lot like Lancelot appeared in the Unseelie court.]
I take it you're not Steve Rogers. [Definite Aussie accent there.] If you were, you'd be in a mess of trouble for being here.
[But really, it's so weird to see people with faces like others she knows.]
no subject
Nope. Name's Johnny Storm, or you could call me the Human Torch. [ He shrugs easily, taking a sip of his drink. ] But let's say I'm this guy you said I'm not. What kind of trouble would I looking at?
no subject
Chloe Frazer.
[She accepts the hand, giving it a shake.]
Human torch? I guess that has to do with your party tricks.
And if you were Steve Rogers, you'd be a far cry from Caer Glaem. He's Seelie, not Unseelie like us. [She drifts closer to whisper.] But he's got a cute little Unseelie girlfriend. Try not to be too bad when you meet her.
[Just a little bad.]
But that's a secret, alright, hot stuff?
no subject
[ Johnny laughs -- it's strange to be told about some dude's girlfriend right off the bat, especially when he's only getting to know people (and possibly have some fun with a few of the pretty, uncomplicated ones). But hey, he fields that smoothly with a shrug, amused but interested. ]
Fair enough. Tell me more about this Steve Rogers. [ Do they really look that much alike? ]
oooooh boy
He looks exactly like Steve, but he's definitely not Steve. First of all, Steve's not allowed here. Second, he carries himself completely differently, and even sounds different.
So what the hell is going on?]
Who are you?
no subject
Definitely shouldn't have startled the man, obviously. ]
Whoa, buddy. You okay there?
no subject
His one free hand squeezes into a tight fist and relaxes as he tells himself no no no no no and takes a deep breath.]
Who. Are. You.
no subject
Johnny Storm. You might've seen me in the papers. Or on TV. Or on those tabloids.
no subject
He lets out a deep breath and shakes his head.]
No. Haven't.
[He hesitates, then figures he should... probably offer an explanation? Maybe? So begrudgingly, he adds:]
You... look like someone.
no subject
Or, at least, someone he's got one hell of history with. ] Important question: is it someone you want to kill, or is it someone you like?
no subject
Tried to kill him. Not anymore.
[Someone he likes? Well... he supposes so, though he's not sure he'd say that. He thinks it might be a little more complicated than that.
But then, isn't everything?]
no subject
Because you killed him, or because you stopped?
no subject
Stopped.
no subject
So what happened to your arm? Did he do that?
no subject
Hydra put it on. But it doesn't work here.
no subject
Why?
no subject
Because they were making me into their weapon.
And because technology doesn't work here.
no subject
[ Understatement of the year, but Johnny's not sure how to commiserate on that particular level -- and he's no therapist, so. ]
Wait, it doesn't? So how do these -- [ He pulls out the locket. ] -- things work? Magic?
no subject
Magic.
no subject
[ He shrugs, setting the locket aside and making a mental note to test it out later. He's curious about this world, interested in all its workings, and has half a mind to search for his missing team-mates later. Party on first, right? ]
What's your name, anyway?
no subject
James.
[If this guy starts calling him "Bucky," it'll just be to weird.]
no subject
Nice meeting you, James. [ He exhales. ] So, d'you know what the hell's really going on here? Is there really a war?
(no subject)
(no subject)
(no subject)
waltzes on in here
There is no one to guide him here, of that he is certain.
How utterly and completely terrifying.
When the soft chiming of glass to glass resonates beside him, he turns his head, eyes flickering a bright amber as he looks the other man up and down. The question brings him to curl his lips, the scar stretching over them just slightly with a flash of teeth. ]
I'm afraid this would not "fly" at all. Your guess is certainly as good as mine.
HI BABY
And that is to get a feel of the scale of the entire situation aside from the whole shard in his chest thing.
He shrugs and takes a sip -- that was worth a shot, right? ] New here, too?
