A sign slips from his mouth and, while his voice shows no sign of the inner battle he is going through, his eyes do.]
There are many like you who are brought here and do not wish to fight. The High-King and High-Queen do try to find ways for them to contribute to the fight without actually fighting. However, this war has gone on for a very long time and it looks to continue on that way for a while. That is why there are others who have decided that if we want to find the answers to our questions and find a way home, we will need to do it ourselves. Forget the courts and forget the war. They would say yes there are others ways, we just need to find them. Meanwhile, those who believe strongly in the monarchs will tell you the war is the only way.
[He holds out his hands in a helpless gesture.]
There is still so much for us to learn, so many questions we need to find answers to. Who knows which side is truly right...
[Though, Diarmuid does know what side he believes in...]

[It's said without much bitterness, though, because he knows that feeling all too well. Once upon a time he believed in the rightness of a prince's cause in much the same way - and, truth be told, there's a part of him that believes in that cause still, although maybe not to the point where he'll go messing around with his own timeline to try and fix things anymore.
However, this isn't the Rising and things have changed for him in a lot of ways. Being pulled in to fight someone else's war isn't sitting so well with him at the moment. And catching a hint of that conflict in Diarmuid's eyes, he has to wonder how well it's sitting with the other man. It's hard to say, at least right now, so he goes with a non-committal sort of noise instead of saying anything about that part of things.]
Mm. Suppose that's true for anywhere. There's always questions that need answering, of some sort or another, no matter where ye wind up. Guess it's a matter of figuring out which way to go about finding the answers, then.

[Diarmuid also knows the feeling, though his voice holds no bitterness. Instead, it just sounds sad. When he had first arrived, he had believed and wanted to believe. Things were so much like his home that it was comforting to believe. Comforting to think that these people believed in everything he did and would allow him to finally live in the way he had always wanted to...
Of course, there is always a time when a dreamer must awaken from their dreams, and even if Diarmuid wanted to keep believing, he is also the kind of man who cannot ignore evidence when it is shoved in his face...
Lets just say he has heard some pretty damning evidence now...]
I would suggest the libraries of the castle and a place called the Barrel. Both hold a great deal of information. In addition, the man who runs the Barrel is a very knowledgeable man who will be very glad to answer any questions he can.
[He's also the head of the neutral side, but that isn't something Diarmuid is going to say out loud. Not in the middle of Caer Glaem.]
Also, talk to others. We are all in the same boat here. Some may not wish to speak with you, but many others will.

[Despite himself, there's a hint of dismay that creeps into the word. He can read - write, too - but not as easily as other people. That'd be something better suited for the Doctor, or Zoe, not him. He has no idea where they are, though. For all he knows they could be over in the other court or not even here at all. If he's going to find out information, he might very well have to give the library a go. Although, given the choice, he'd much rather try talking to people first.]
Aye, well...maybe. Talking to people, though, that I can do. Where would this Barrel place be, then?

[Diarmuid frowns. Destroying that library might be considered one of the more minor of Reynard the Fox's terrible deeds, but it had been the one to originally draw the man to Diarmuid's attention.]
It's a little difficult to explain where the Barrel is without showing you on a map. This a very vast place. However, I will be glad to show you where it is. You can either travel there via a fairy ring and horse or if that kind of magical travel bothers you, there are paths that can be taken via horse. Going the whole route that way will take longer, but...fairy rings...
[Considering where Jamie is from, Diarmuid knows that the words 'fairy rings' will likely create the same unease in the man as they do in himself. Fortunately, because of his speed, Diarmuid has been able to pretty much avoid using them.]
Also, if you wish, you can contact people over your locket.
[Diarmuid pulls out his to show to Jamie.]
They are not very hard to use and more handy than they seem at first.
no subject
Aye, well...might just stick to the horses for now. So long as I can find one, that is.
[The locket gets his attention, though. He'd mostly dismissed it earlier, so hearing that you can talk to people on it is a bit of a surprise.]
Hold on, ye mean that's what that's for? I thought...well, never mind what I thought. People actually use those rather than the rings or horses?

[Diarmuid catches that grimace no matter how fast it is and only nods in understanding, before moving onto a more pleasant topic.]
They do. I prefer talking to people face-to-face, but when they are across the world from you that is rather hard.
[He fiddles with his locket a little and then holds it out, encouraging Jamie to take it for the moment.]
As you can see, there are many posts here form people, both Seelie and Unseelie. There are also settings so you can limited who sees the message you send. You can also lock communication so that only you and another person can see it. Text, voice, and video messages can all be sent.

A boon? Is that what I think it is?
[He knows the stories, after all, and boons can be important things. Possibly powerful ones, too, unless it's different here than in the tales he's heard of as a youth.]

[Diarmuid gestures out to the hall around them.]
You are probably going to find that a lot of things here will remind you of the stories from your home. For me, it is quite a bit like coming home, but do be wary. Just because a lot seems like home or the stories of old, doesn't always mean it is.
[And the Fae, both Seelie and Unseelie are just as tricky as the stories say they are.]
