[Simonelli hardly looks like the friendliest person ever himself, though it's honestly not his fault. His half fairy face has a tendency to make him look pompous and uncaring at the best of times.

But, to be perfectly honest, he is a pompous and uncaring fellow most of the time.

It's hardly possible to not stop and come over when hailed, however, especially in so polite a manner. Even if the other person is clearly some sort of sidhe creature.]

If I am able to help I will be glad to do so, sir, though I am but a newcomer here myself.

Then my questions are less for you.

[He doesn't ask the other to sit with him either, expecting this conversation to last only a few minutes at most.]

Have you seen any who look to be of kin to me? Their hair may be blond rather than dark.

[He likes to think that he remains calm and uncaring about the other's demeanor, but he's a little pissed that he has not been asked to sit or joined in standing. A brief flash of inhuman temper flashes unknown across his face.]

Are you one of the Daoine Sidhe? I have seen many who look to be of their number here.

[Technically that number includes himself, but only when he feels like it. Today is not that day.]
mining_mole: (A prince I am.)

[A word that he has not heard before, in a language that reminds him strongly of the other name that this world has been introduced to him by. And while for a Noldo he is not particularly interested in languages, it still picks his interest - also because it might teach him more about this place, even coming from a new arrival.]

Perhaps so, if Daoine Sidhe is but a different name for my people; to me, it is a word which rings strange, yet so do the words which Men and Naugrim call us.

[Either of his people. Not that he will readily identify himself with his father's blood if he can choose his mother's instead.]

Will you sit with me, and tell me of this culture which the word derives from?

[The invitation to sit down is readily and gladly accepted, but it's the prospect of imparting knowledge that truly appeals to Simonelli's better half. He is, after all, a university man and there's nothing he loves quite as much as showing the fruits of his hard won learning. If uninterrupted he will talk and talk and talk.]

Daoine Sidhe is an ancient name for the fairy race. It is a Celtic term and their own language is said to be a relation to the Gaelic tongues. They, or at least those who made up the King's host, are said to be tall, glitteringly pale, and almost unbearably fair to Christian eyes. [A good enough descriptor of the man sitting next to him.] They are also known to be vain, cruel, capricious, and deceitful, as well as highly magically skilled.

This land seems to be some hitherto unknown part of their homeland of Faerie and many of the non-mortal inhabitants appear to be of that race. Or so my studies have led me to believe, though there is much I do not know though my own dealings with them have perhaps been more significant than those of any Englishman in centuries.

[yeah. Not humble at all.]
mining_mole: (Fairest beings of them all.)

[personal profile] mining_mole 2015-01-07 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Many things you ascribe to the Daoine Sidhe, and I wonder if they should readily agree to all of them.

[Sharp, bright eyes bore into Simonelli, searching more information, and he reaches out with all senses, listening as intently with his ears as with all other parts of his fëa. He doesn't quite expect this man to be more than a Man, but perhaps he is touched by one thing or the other. He has heard stories... and well. The single Man that he knows was touched by something akin to a demigod, not that that makes Maeglin dislike him any less.]

Tell me, how does it come that you had more dealings with them than any of your kin in generations of your kind? Ere you came here, that is.

[He's not going to trust this man, simply because he is unlikely to trust anyone right now. But he still wants to know how he should judge his words.]

[His first instinct is to lie. He has a natural talent for it after all, acquired by both ancestry and practice. But this is not England and his status as a halfbreed bastard does not seem to have as much bearing. In fact, the creatures who escorted him to this place appear to have ascribed to him his father and cousin's princely state. What's the harm in a little truth?

It's obvious though that he doesn't speak this particular truth often and honesty sits awkwardly in his speech.]

I rendered a service to one of their princes when I became rector of Allhope. In payment he took it upon himself to discover more of my ancestry and later revealed to me that a cousin of his had seduced my mother some years earlier and was my father. After that I was often a guest at his house until he forced my hand by threatening several ladies of my acquaintance.

[Perhaps one of the more unsettling testaments to his peculiar background is just how calmly and offhandedly he can refer to the murder of his cousin.]

Peredhel.

[Half-elven. And yet not, he thinks; for would not elven blood impact the man's looks more, even if it makes up only half of the blood that flows in his veins?]

Or so might you be called in my world, if truly my kin and the Daione Sidhe are the same and only separate through where they hail from.

[He keeps his tone academic, neutral, though to learn this about the other... Not the exact nature of his blood, not the exact story, but some of it. He feels a sudden, strange kinship, and it is all that he can do to notice and control it, trying to store it away firmly.]

[personal profile] fiercefairyheart 2015-01-08 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[He has inherited his father's inhuman looks, but for his world, nonhuman ancestry is less a question of pointy ears and a glowy complexion, and more one of the slant to his eyebrows and suggestions of hauteur and coldness, cruelty and cunning, no matter the human emotions behind his face. That and the fact that he really is a very pretty man who has aged about as far as he ever will.]

There may yet be some kinship there, [since any relationship to humanity's out of the question] but thus far you have comported yourself far more calmly than any of the Sidhe which I have met or heard of. Rationality, or so I have seen it written, is not one of their strengths.
mining_mole: (A prince I am.)

[personal profile] mining_mole 2015-01-08 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods coolly; it is, in many ways, a compliment to him to be regarded so, and then it is not.]

We are not a people of one mood only; I shall call my father's kin dark and my mother's valiant, and yet her second brother is not so. The one thing which I wager all of kin, near and far, possess is a will which will not let go of what they have set their mind on once or what path they have stepped on, it should prove disastrous or not.

That does sound familiar. My cousin could be possessed of a great singularity of purpose when it suited it him, though perhaps it might have been better if tempered with some degree of true human charity or thought for the welfare of others.

[His tone manages to just barely come off as nonlecturing. Whereas he implies that he, thanks to his mixed heritage, clearly combines the best traits of both. The ego is practically blinding.]
mining_mole: (All the better.)

[personal profile] mining_mole 2015-01-09 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Luckily, he is used to deal with that kind of ego, at least to a degree.

Primary strategy: Ignore. As in, stay silent and simply give them a dark look (but then, that is his reaction to most things, unless there is something that he wants. Which is the case here.]

Have you, then, seen any here who resemble me closely enough to be of my world?
fiercefairyheart: (pic#8611147)

[personal profile] fiercefairyheart 2015-01-10 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
A few perhaps. Is there someone in particular that you are hoping to find? [Or avoid. Alessandro Simonelli may be a smug, self-serving (literal) bastard, but he's not dumb. If someone chooses to ask strangers about his own people rather than actively seek them out himself...]

A man, Turgon, who resembles me closer than others and his daughter Idril, a woman with blond hair. [The second of which is actually in the drabwurld.

He hesitates only a heartbeat to announce their names; if they are here, they will hear of him soon one way or the other.]
