erwin smith ➤ attack on titan ➤ unseelie
whoa hello, picking door number two.
Several months have passed by now, but it's no novelty with a worn down shine. The sights, the vastness, the freedom—Eren can't imagine ever getting over the feeling even after his entire life passes by. (He hopes, however, it doesn't all come and go here; incredible as the Drabwurld is, his home forever holds priority.) So it isn't just an obligation to comply with his superior's request that leads Eren to accompanyi Erwin in a little exploring. Of course he'd come. There's a whole world out there to see.
In a small, rarely spotted clearing in La Llorona, Eren hangs back, gripping onto the reins of his own horse, watching as the commander pools over his map and notes. He's much more diligent about this, but then again, Eren has the advantage of familiarity (mostly) and hasn't as much of a need for them in the areas more immediate of Caer Scima. For all he knows, the notes might be necessary—or just a good reference for the man to return to later on, as he too gathers his bearings in this world. ]
I've gone down the main road enough times. [ Eren explains, tilting his head to the side, as if it would give him a better view of the papers Erwin holds. ] But I haven't gone off it to do much looking around for myself, sir.
hello there 8]
still, he doesn't want to tarry long, and that's partially because of Eren's presence, partially because there's so much more to see, and partially because this forest is unsettling in a dark, insidious way. it sets his nerves on edge in a way the forests beyond the wall never could, deep and towering and dangerous though he knew them to be. back there, even though they'd known so little about their enemy, about their world, they'd had expectations to run on. here, in the gloom of La Llorona, he has no such security.
Eren is a far cry from the squads and captains of the Survey Corps, it's true, but he still brings a piece of it, and a companionship that Erwin is glad of right now. ]
I imagine that was in your best interests, [ he says eventually, folding papers and rising to his feet. he turns to look at Eren directly. ] Solo exploration of this place is likely inefficient. [ definitely unwise, but he's learning that could be said for so much of this land.
it doesn't detract from the thrill of discovering it, however. ]

Eren straightens himself when Erwin rises, absentminded tug on the reins causing the horse to whinny discontentedly. He pays it little mind, his gaze unmoving from the commander's own stare back at him. ]
It can get dangerous. There aren't any titans here, but there are different kinds of monsters to deal with.

My experience there is very limited, perhaps unfortunately. [ a droll expression, fleeting. ] Have you had any notable encounters in your time here, Eren?

Eren gives his own, slow nod in response. ]
A couple—once in this forest, but that was months ago. I haven't seen any of those things around since.
sorry about the delay, back to school this week and it was busier than I thought!
What exactly did you encounter? [ he's asking a lot of questions, and he doesn't like it. there's no shame in asking, in gathering information - and he's no stranger to feeling low on information. but he's used to knowing what's available, at least, and is left with a sense of catching up to do. ]
and to be contrary, door number one!! poor lonely door number one
Levi's already reaching for whatever food is in front of him to heap onto the small plate in his hand, carefully examining the food as his hand hovers. He's already wary of these fairies and their tricks. ]
I think you'd better check that glass before you take a swig of it again. Pretty sure I saw someone getting too close and leaving too smug.
[ It was good to have a familiar face or two around, anyway. It's too much hassle waiting for new people to get used to his personality. Making friends is hard!! Finding good company is even harder!! ]
naturally
he doesn't warn Levi to be careful, either. it's unnecessary. ]
I haven't seen anyone that I recognise, in any case. [ it's strange, but perhaps not unsurprising. after the betrayal of their own soldiers - anticipated or not - and Eren's capture, suspicion is ripe in his mind. (arguably, it is a deeper rooted thing than that, woven into him when he was innocent of danger and a fool.) a smile quirks his mouth, though it's mostly mirthless, his gaze still focused elsewhere. ] You'll have to continue representing the Survey Corps, you understand.

[ His reply is just as dry, popping some piece of fruit in his mouth he's pretty sure he's never seen or heard of before in his life. That seemed to be how this place was. Decadent, bountiful, and with danger lurking around every corner. Not particularly harmful danger, just mischievous "that might have ill effects on your hair color" / "give you the runs" sort of danger he would appreciate as a joke if he weren't caught in the same net.
It's still strange to see Erwin with his right arm, but he's trying his best not to stare; it could at least be passed off as watching his drink. The feeling is similar to when Petra would clean his office and leave a piece of furniture out of place, but realize her mistake and move it back after he'd noticed. ]
Me either, but maybe that's for the best. I don't know how to deal with the things that hang around here. At least titans are simple idiots. [ How does one combat fae magic? Even with his leg healed, his 3DMG is practically worthless and his hand to hand isn't quite enough to ward that off. With the nod to his responsibilities, Levi thinks he picks up the intended meaning. He had to maintain his awareness and appearances, as well.
He'd suck his teeth at the mere idea if he didn't know Erwin was right. Levi had never been much for putting on airs and appearances. He maintained order and a tidy uniform and otherwise didn't care what people thought of him and his personality. He could do his job without people fawning over him or thinking him the hero. ] That's always been your job. I'll do as I always have and leave the rest for you to sort out.
[ And now for some cheese, because the sweet aftertaste of the fruit didn't agree with him. Steely eyes flick down to observe it before it passes his lips, but he isn't too sure just what he should be looking for. ]
