The rainbow itself isn't the inappropriate part, it's just an all-encompassing representation.

Rainbows are traditionally seen as a divine sanction for war, an omen of good luck. How does that encompass inappropriateness, my lady?

I don't remember where I was going with the comparison but I think it had something to do with the wide range of colours being comparable to the wide range of our friendship.
