8D NABORUUUUUUUU
[ Kaldur settles closer to the wall, as is his wont during the welcoming feasts. The first he had been too wrapped in his own concerns and grief to have handled well, but the subsequent ones he had tended to avoid out of a desire to leave the crowd. Yet friends have come through during these times, so is willing to attend, sticking towards the shadows and edges to observe.
But the comment paired with his observation of her actions lends him to believe her somewhat of a kindred spirit, unsettled by the grandiose greeting for a war that holds far too few details to his comfort. ]
I am Kaldur'ahm, and even the time I have spent here since being first drawn has not served to make me any less apprehensive of such festivities, in light of what we are 'meant' to be facing.
TALL GLASS OF WATER...LAD 8D
It'll take more than this to buy the services of the Exalted Nabooru, [ she remarks, wry, her introduction meriting a cant of her hip. what he has to say is deemed worthwhile; at the least, he has experience, but he seems sensible too. ] Wars are not won from feasts. Have you been here long, Kaldur'ahm?
THEY MAKE 'EM FINE IN ATLANTIS
Four months, or thereabouts. And for all the searching I have done in that time, the reasoning of these "monarch's" seems no clearer than it did the day I arrived to a feast much like this one.
[ He has fought battles in this war, twice in defense, has fought the dangers of the creatures that dwell within this world, and he still has farther to search still. At least he is slowly gaining allies and friends, regardless of the courts so far. Gathering information from other places is vital, and he is curious to see how things unfold. There is something that seems wrong with this whole war, and Kaldur has every intention of discovering what it might be. ]
I do not like being told what side I am to take in a conflict that is not of my business.
DON'T THEY JUST
still, valuable as his words are, she doesn't much like what they mean. but idle conjecture goes against her pragmatism; Nabooru will get the answers she needs, of this much she is certain. ]
That makes two of us, then. [ at least. Nabooru doubts they are alone in this much. continuing, her tone turns airier:] Not that I can fault their choice. [ then she's set again, serious. ] Four months. What conflict has this place seen?
ITS ALL THE OMEGA-3 IN THE FISH, I'M TELLIN' YA
The second battle concluded only recently, in time for the feast by a handful of days. It was initiated by a member of the opposite court, due to a friend of mine acquiring a... gem that was considered theirs. From their homeworld, apparently, nothing to do with the "shards" we are meant to carry.
[ And Kaldur still needs to have words with Clarisse on that score, but it can wait for now. ]
The first month, both courts were beset by monsters. Giant worms that could only be sliced into pieces and burned. The third had some other trouble, though I had been busy trying to settle some of my own affairs, and could not tell you a great deal about what was going on. Rogue pixies, apparently.
[ He describes all of this flatly. The sort of tone a commander would have who has seen so much weird shit he's stopped questioning any more, and doesn't even pretend to have a clue what sort of junk is going down. ]
I confess I was hoping for something of a reprieve. I have a friend who is helping me make inquiries among all the different 'nations' present in this world, to get a clearer picture of the conflict. But when innocents are threatened, I find that I cannot stand aside.
[ He is telling her a lot, taking a chance on an extension of trust, and the way his eyes constantly flick back towards her as he surveys the action of the feast, paired with the relaxed but ready stance he takes observing show that he is ready.
Twenty-one and a leader of five years, sometimes he forgets how young he is, how young his teammates are, in the eyes of others. ]
whatever it is I want in
knocking back a mouthful of wine, she sets the goblet aside and faces him directly. there's a flat kind of honesty to her tone as she replies. ]
I appreciate this, Kaldur'ahm. I don't like being signed up unwillingly for war, but I won't ignore a threat either. What can you tell me about this court? The people in it?
