feasts, at least, provide ample opportunity to listen in, though it seems the majority assembled here are a little like her, out of place and uncertain. still, doing the rounds of the feast table, she tries to pick up what she can, get some kind of base for herself. it's hard not to be distracted by the sheer array of food before her, though, and she spends a considerable amount of time eyeing the platters in equal parts curiosity and supicion.
the wine, at least, has not proven to be poison so far. she who dares wins. ] It's quite a greeting. [ as it is, even after settling herself there remains plenty to learn, but it's a welcome way to busy herself. despite being given a brief explanation on how to use the laptop she's currently hefting above the table, Nabooru doesn't even have the thing open. instead, she's turning it over and over, mint tea going long forgotten in favour of studying the contraption. fairies have come and gone to offer suggestions, but she's not particularly interested in paint or purble place - she wants to figure out how such a thing works.
having surmised that the little pins dotting the bottom of it must be key to seeing the innards of the beast. wanting a look at the mechanics of it, she tries teasing the nails out with her fingers, tapping around them to loosen them, and banging the thing once or twice, because Gerudo craftsmanship is second to none but calling it delicate would probably be a lie.
eventually, she removes one of her heavy golden bracelets. with the corner slotted into the top of the pin, she thinks she just might be able to unscrew it. ]
station.
[The Station was considered neutral ground between the Seelie and Unseelie court, but this did not prevent the likes of Ganondorf from coming and going. He was long overdue to take a look at this place and was perversely pleased to come across Nabooru. Until now, they had only chance to speak on the lockets due to being aligned to different courts.
But for all he had learned, he was as ignorant of the strange decide as she was. He stood behind her, having approached quietly, proving that for all that had passed, he was still as stealthy a Gerudo as he'd ever been.]
station.
and really, it's damned unfair that he can sneak up like that. it shouldn't be surprising - she trained ith him, ran with him, hunted and hid and stole with him, but the extent of his malice, his evil, his power -- such things she should be able to feel. alas, the Great King of Evil is greater in force than a single Sage.
even so, she considers spitting into his face, but she possesses wisdom and control enough to stay such wishes.
after a moment, she grins up at him. ]
Is that why you came here, Ganondorf?
station.
Perhaps I have. But I've yet to see anything of value. Until now. [He smiles thinly, but the smile does not reach his eyes.] You've not changed at all.
no subject
For once, I cannot fault your sense of priority, Ganondorf. What brings you so far from whatever dark place you've holed yourself up in?

[Briefly he caught her eyes as he looked down at her, but then he turned away with his arms folded behind him. He took a few steps as he raised his eyes to study the rotating fan on the ceiling.]
I read once that in the time of the Demon King, that our own land once flourished with not just life, but technology as well. Perhaps it looked like this place does.

but she allows a scoff, the sound falling hard from her mouth. ]
If any would be capable, it would be the Gerudo, [ once, she'd have said our people. Ganondorf is no longer afforded the honour. ] But it would have been a damn sight warmer, and with far less aimless wandering.
no subject
Of that I have no doubt. [She may not bestow him that honor, but he still has his Gerudo pride. It defines him as much as it does her.] What is the aim of your wandering? Do you seek to shelter in the so-called neutrality of this place?
no subject
You know me better, even now. [ it's irritating to admit, in many ways. ] This place is vast and strange. I will learn it, if they mean to keep me here.

[Once he would have been unable to forgive her treachery. But he'd had such a very, very long time to let some grudges die in favor of others strengthening.]
no subject
livid and uncertain, she speaks terse but firm. ]
And what is it you're fighting for here, great king?
no subject
He looked away and though his features were older than they'd ever been, there was traces of the boyish ambition that had once made him exceptional and eventually led to his downfall.]
The conflict between the Seelie and the Unseelie is a petty and endless conflict. All that matters is that one side must win. Once the conflict has ended, the way home shall be opened to us. We will return wiser, stronger, and empowered to rectify what has went wrong. This War of the Shards is inevitable, Nabooru. You should choose the winning side now, before it is too late.

she might be able to pick his argument apart, but there's a crude and callous kind of sense in what he says that she deigns to ignore. lip curling into a sneer, she folds her arms, looking at him evenly. ]
Which side is that? Unseelie? Or your own?

8D NABORUUUUUUUU
[ Kaldur settles closer to the wall, as is his wont during the welcoming feasts. The first he had been too wrapped in his own concerns and grief to have handled well, but the subsequent ones he had tended to avoid out of a desire to leave the crowd. Yet friends have come through during these times, so is willing to attend, sticking towards the shadows and edges to observe.
But the comment paired with his observation of her actions lends him to believe her somewhat of a kindred spirit, unsettled by the grandiose greeting for a war that holds far too few details to his comfort. ]
I am Kaldur'ahm, and even the time I have spent here since being first drawn has not served to make me any less apprehensive of such festivities, in light of what we are 'meant' to be facing.
TALL GLASS OF WATER...LAD 8D
It'll take more than this to buy the services of the Exalted Nabooru, [ she remarks, wry, her introduction meriting a cant of her hip. what he has to say is deemed worthwhile; at the least, he has experience, but he seems sensible too. ] Wars are not won from feasts. Have you been here long, Kaldur'ahm?
THEY MAKE 'EM FINE IN ATLANTIS
Four months, or thereabouts. And for all the searching I have done in that time, the reasoning of these "monarch's" seems no clearer than it did the day I arrived to a feast much like this one.
[ He has fought battles in this war, twice in defense, has fought the dangers of the creatures that dwell within this world, and he still has farther to search still. At least he is slowly gaining allies and friends, regardless of the courts so far. Gathering information from other places is vital, and he is curious to see how things unfold. There is something that seems wrong with this whole war, and Kaldur has every intention of discovering what it might be. ]
I do not like being told what side I am to take in a conflict that is not of my business.
DON'T THEY JUST
still, valuable as his words are, she doesn't much like what they mean. but idle conjecture goes against her pragmatism; Nabooru will get the answers she needs, of this much she is certain. ]
That makes two of us, then. [ at least. Nabooru doubts they are alone in this much. continuing, her tone turns airier:] Not that I can fault their choice. [ then she's set again, serious. ] Four months. What conflict has this place seen?
ITS ALL THE OMEGA-3 IN THE FISH, I'M TELLIN' YA
The second battle concluded only recently, in time for the feast by a handful of days. It was initiated by a member of the opposite court, due to a friend of mine acquiring a... gem that was considered theirs. From their homeworld, apparently, nothing to do with the "shards" we are meant to carry.
[ And Kaldur still needs to have words with Clarisse on that score, but it can wait for now. ]
The first month, both courts were beset by monsters. Giant worms that could only be sliced into pieces and burned. The third had some other trouble, though I had been busy trying to settle some of my own affairs, and could not tell you a great deal about what was going on. Rogue pixies, apparently.
[ He describes all of this flatly. The sort of tone a commander would have who has seen so much weird shit he's stopped questioning any more, and doesn't even pretend to have a clue what sort of junk is going down. ]
I confess I was hoping for something of a reprieve. I have a friend who is helping me make inquiries among all the different 'nations' present in this world, to get a clearer picture of the conflict. But when innocents are threatened, I find that I cannot stand aside.
[ He is telling her a lot, taking a chance on an extension of trust, and the way his eyes constantly flick back towards her as he surveys the action of the feast, paired with the relaxed but ready stance he takes observing show that he is ready.
Twenty-one and a leader of five years, sometimes he forgets how young he is, how young his teammates are, in the eyes of others. ]
whatever it is I want in
knocking back a mouthful of wine, she sets the goblet aside and faces him directly. there's a flat kind of honesty to her tone as she replies. ]
I appreciate this, Kaldur'ahm. I don't like being signed up unwillingly for war, but I won't ignore a threat either. What can you tell me about this court? The people in it?
no subject
If nothing else, his attention seems utterly innocent in its openness. ]
Aye, that it is. To be torn from home and kin and told you're little but a pig going to the slaughter, and have the matter celebrated.
[ The words were black, fell from his mouth like leaden weights. ]
neeeeeeeeed ;~;
They seem to think a party will buy service. [ she scoffs. ] Such soldiers would be worthless for any real fight.
ahhh, I was worried I wouldn't have time to tag you! c: she'd be a great addition!
Instead, he sighs, shoulders sagging. ]
Not so, I'm afraid. Some moons I've remained here; and a good many of the soldiers gathered who are determined to fight are... skillful. Some genuinely good men; others young, eager for glory and victory.
[ But he dipped his chin, offered his work-roughened hand. ]
Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell.
I'm really glad you did 8]
she takes his hand, shakes it firmly. Stark. Winterfell. cold words, hard words; indeed, there is something wintry in him, too. ]
Nabooru, Exalted of the Gerudo. [ her flat expression creaks into a small, determined sort of smile. ] You have been here some time, Stark. Tell me, what do you think of the king and queen I've heard talk of?
Re: I'm really glad you did 8]
Hearing talk of them is near the most you will do, regarding them. They are passive, and near always out of sight. The Unseelie Court, I understand, is possessed of more active leadership.
I do not intend to linger much longer under the auspices of their protection.

Elusive leaders, placating us with parties. [ she scoffs again, hands coming to her hips; it's clear she thinks little of such authority. but her interest is piqued by thought of an alternative. tilting her head, she looks at him closely. ] What will you do?
