I'm sorry - I probably should have said that first. Instinct took me, I suppose. But I'm being rude, I should introduce myself. I am Lúthien, daughter of Thingol and Melian, the rulers of Doriath.

[She's cute, whoever she is.]

I cannot imagine there being none but eagles in the sky. It sounds like a lonely existence.

[That statement is... slightly strange.]

As you say. Still, I do not see how one may be descended from one thing and be something else entirely.

Yes, it is. It's not terribly safe away from my home, and I've never had any reason to leave. It would make my parents unhappy, which is a good reason not to.

[It is beautiful, but it's making one particular human feel out of his depth in his jeans, t-shirt and jacket. He's not Alan Scott, he's not rich and used to such things, and Khalid is feeling a little odd anyway as he holds onto the golden helmet with both hands. He is however, a man that wants answers when he can get them and when he sees Celebrian he looks her over. A part of him is instantly afraid of what she'll be capable of, but back home non-humans are rarely ever a good thing anymore, and a part of him is curious. She looks like she belongs here, she looks at ease. So it's enough of a draw for him and he makes his way towards her, carefully tucking his helmet under his arm and covering it with one hand.]

Excuse me, are you from here?

Make sure we're not on the losing side?

[ Saash poses it as a question, albeit a not entirely serious one. She stops talking for a moment to bend her head over and give one of her ears a good scratch with a back paw, then continues. ]

Or whatever it is that requires a gate technician and a... [ Whatever Nita might be good at. ] ...you to sort out.

[Janine can't actually smile, but she gapes her toothless beak slightly.]

:Enough generations away and you can get unrecognizable. Either way, if I'm a dragon I'm not the kidnapping hoarding kind.:

[Sweet, dim, and sheltered. Janine has the sudden desire to take her under her wing. Figuratively, anyway.]

:Wow. So, have you thought up your priorities? Finding food, water, and shelter makes it easier to make plans past that.:

[It's almost a silent acknowledgement, the way Corvo pushes forward, a motion that makes Garrett tilt his head if only slightly, curiosity piqued. Why would a man who is aware that someone is around just amiably wander off towards a place that most would assume would be more dangerous? And in Garrett's case, most assuredly would be?

It's not too difficult to figure out, really- the man is just confident in keeping the prize away from him, and the master thief isn't used to something quite like it. Back home, people scare easily. One sound of shattered glass and the guards jump a mile and look in all the wrong places. It's easy enough to distract them, but this man...

Well, Garrett always does love a challenge.

As Corvo moves down into the hallway, the master thief follows, that right eye of his beginning to glow a bright aqua in the dark, trying to see if there's anything he could use to his advantage. A few spare vases, a bookcase, a chandelier. Things that could be useful, yes, but far too suspicious and more importantly, loud. That is the one thing he wants to avoid at this moment. A ghost is a far better approach than being a predator in this case. After all, this man is orange in his Focus, aware of his presence and alert, but not yet hostile. He's not exactly looking for him either, but Garrett isn't about to just waltz right up and swipe that charm off the stranger.

Not yet, at least.

Things have to be thought through. Decisions have to be placed carefully. His feet step across the carpet quietly, moves like a cat, delicate and careful of where he steps and the noises he makes. Like walking through a room set with birdcages and sleeping birds, he avoids making sudden movement, hand gently reaching to his side, fingers wrapping around the neck of a glass bottle he had brought from home. A raise of that same hand, and he tosses the bottle away, hard, from himself, and away from Corvo, causing the glass to shatter and almost echo in the dulled sound of the celebration behind them both.

Was he aiming for Corvo's head? Certainly not. The Blackjack would do a better job if he wanted to knock the man out. No, this is to divert his attention, as Garrett now swiftly moves in, hand outstretched towards that charm from the shadows, to snatch it away and let the darkness engulf them both as a whole.

Your move, sir Attano.]

I didn't think you were, but dragons here don't seem to be so simple as that.

[That's what comes of being a princess in the tightest guarded kingdom in Arda when everybody else keeps getting in wars.]

I would have, but for the fact that it seems I don't need to.

Lúthien?

[Her eyes widen, just a fraction, and takes in the introduction. This shouldn't be possible. Lúthien was dead and so was Beren. So was Thingol. And Doriath was gone. Ages have passed since those days. Could the fairies do that? Steal away the dead? But then, wouldn't Lúthien know about that? And about her fathers death?

Very little time passes as these thoughts race through her mind before she smiles and dips her head respectfully.]

[............... o h. Well so much for trying to hook up Artanis and Celeborn, she supposed, unless there was another of that name. Which... there might be, considering they were apparently from a place she had never heard of.]

I confess I am unfamiliar with Lothlorien. I do know a Celeborn, but as far as I know he has not left.

:Yeah, they seem pretty willing to provide this stuff. But that doesn't mean they'll stay willing. Everything's got a price. The people here want things from you. If they can't get those, are they really going to just keep giving them to you?:

[Janine maneuvers her great head to look at Luthien out of the other eye. They're both very red and very large.]

:New place, new people, completely new situation. You can't get complacent just 'cause it's comfortable at first, or you're going to get screwed over, sooner or later.:

[This is when she looks up, and for the first time reveals that there is some steel hiding under that silk.]

I never said, did I, that I intended to be complacent. But given the situation here now, I see no reason not to take advantage of it. And it is far easier to find your footing when you have a platform to step from.

Lothlorien is just west of the Misty Mountains. It is... so beautiful, I have happily called it home for many years.

[She only looks at ease. There's a great deal she doesn't understand yet herself. She took after her mother at times though, and made sure she at least looked in control. That she was doing so good a job of it that he felt the need to ask that actually surprised her. Enough to shake her carefully focused gaze around the room.]

[ What is dangerous to some might be simply a change of scenery for another; he lingered within most of those places, as it were. Creeping through the stretch of hallways, or the sewers where a stench of whale oil, and fish and rat clung to the air with a venomous hold. All that mattered was to reach a mark, to swipe information in order to further his goal. To kill, or to condemn the target to a merciless fate as a twisted form of mercy. (He lived with his pain, and they too should pay; death was the mercy and perhaps Corvo simply wasn't that kind).

This was, perhaps, a questionable choice of action, for he knew nothing of the shadow that followed him (just that it did); but a lot of Corvo's choices could be put to question by some more prone to self-reflection as a preferred past-time.

Instead, it was a challenge for both. To him, a test of awareness, of how he adapts to a world so unset from his own, and to the others brought into it. And all for nothing, he was kind of intrigued. Who would win?

Loathe as he would to admit it, without the Outsider's power, trying to pay close attention to Garrett would have been a much more tedious challenge. He couldn't even hear the thief's footfalls. Because where Garrett moves as the master of the art, Corvo's bearing is of a fighter, still, good as he may be at disappearing.

Awareness bristles when the glass shatters in distraction. But even if it takes a few seconds, he knows full well what it was; he's done things like that himself, when a particularly lazy guard wouldn't move from his post for too long.

Red seeps into his world again and out of the very corner of his eye does he catch that aura of a living thing and the Mark glows again, branded sharp lines burning brighter against the creeping shadows and he moves, puts a short distance between them in nothing but a blink, a whisper of blue before pivoting to face him.
]

Almost. [ said as more of an exhale, really; a statement of fact rather than taunt, curious to see what the next move would be. And who it would belong to. ]

How strange, for I thought I knew the lands known to the people of Doriath, but this is a land strange to me.

And while he's disappointed she's not from here (a friendly face would be nice about such things) he's quick to push past it to stare at her, shifting slightly as if to ready himself to shove the helmet on his head at a moments notice, he's tense. [ The feast proved appetizing enough to distract Peter from the fact that he was in some strange world while back home, Aunt May was all alone. It was a bit more than a normal fifteen year old had to deal with, even one who had superpowers, but at least he wasn't thinking about that now. No, he was focused on not faceplanting ungracefully because of fairy tricks.

He had been trying walk his way down to a seat with a plate laden with food, when one of the mischievous creatures tried to slip him up by spilling water at his feet. The result? Peter's feet slipped under him, with his plate flying high into the air, but there were pluses to having the reflexes of a spider: he twisted his body in a prodigious display of acrobatics, righting himself. From there, he caught his plate as it came down, and he quickly collected his falling pieces of fruit and such into a piled mess on his plate. It wasn't exactly a natural display, and he was a little surprised with himself.

With a free hand, he nervously adjusted his glasses and then settled over on the floor, not too far off from Johnny. It was funny how such a strange surrounding could drain young Spider-Man's confidence.

There are always loopholes even in the best systems.

[a shrug; he'll probably take a look at it later, although he would need a computer to access the system.]

Although considering that the fairies enjoy such shows as 'Real Housewives', I doubt that they want us to find anything useful that is not similar.
