[ Merlin, compared to Arthur, is having the time of his life. He's enjoying seeing all the fae out and in front of him in ways that were impossible in Camelot and he's enjoying the revelry of the feasts. At home, in Camelot, he could never join in but here? He's invited, requested, and it's impossible for him to resist his urge to laugh and show his joy.

At least it was. When he sees Arthur, and his sour expression, he walks over and leans close, lifting an eyebrow. ]

It looks harmless to me.

no, that would be wrong, since there is more than one trouble with merlin. in face, arthur is rather certain he counted 645 troubles with merlin. but one of them is that merlin doesn't quite know how to make himself known like every other person in the world. No, merlin has to make himself known rudely, suddenly and always unexpectedly. ]

[ he nearly drops the glass because it's not that merlin had startled him (as if that could ever happen!!) but he was just suddenly there.

(which is the same as being startled but arthur would rather drink whatever is in that glass rather than admitting that. ]

[ He looks somewhat startled for a moment before he gives Arthur a sort of cheeky smile, lifting his shoulders in a lanky, awkward half-shrug. He wasn't skulking, he had been walking around the same as anyone else. It's not his fault that Arthur was a total idiot and didn't seem to pay attention to the world around him half the time. ]
