[ hiding a panic isn't the easiest thing in the world to do. it's better to go some place alone, get it out of your system, then present a fresh face like you know what the hell you're doing. not that tommy would ever do anything like that, don't be absurd.

nevertheless, it's fairly easy to spot the signs when someone else is having a problem. it's the repeated words that actually draw his attention and then he just quietly observes for a few moments before throwing any caution to the wind and moving closer to her. ]

Do you always make a habit of talking to yourself? Or is this just a special occasion?

[ Perking up at the voice, pretending as though it didn't make her jump a little, Hermione ducks her head as a flush spreads over her cheeks. She hadn't realised anyone was likely to hear her and she feels a little uncomfortable now. ]

It's a bad habit, but this is a special occasion as well.

[ Very smooth, and it's enough to relax Hermione. Closing the map, she shoves it into her bag and stands, holding out her hand slowly. ]

[ oh. how cute. well, sort of. it's not that he meant to make her feel bad about what she was doing or anything—just a conversation starter, a way to break the ice. she seems to take it well enough, and that's what matters.

he takes her hand for just a moment with a bright grin. ]

[ then he lets go, rocking back on the heels of his feet. silently, he regards her for a moment, then it's followed by an almost nonchalant sort of shrug. ]

I don't know if I'd say bad. Someone I know does it constantly for his spells.

[ Oh? Perking up, she beams - it's very easy to get Hermione interested in things, especially if you say the magic word (literally). ]

Your friend has magic too, then? I mean, I'm not sure what the magic of this place is like, exactly, I haven't been able to read much about it at all, but -- do you mind telling me a little more?

[ now he'll know all her secrets!! or, well, at least one of them. which will be utterly useless in the long run. but whatever. he'll take it. ]

Um, yeah. He's [ ... ] kind of my brother. [ he makes a face with an accompanying hand-flappy type gesture ] Long story. Anyway, he's got a crazy amount of powers that basically god-mode sometimes. Like reality warping type stuff.

[ there's a brief pause and tommy looks around, almost as if making sure—double sure—that billy isn't around. or... anyone he knows for that matter. his voice is kept low as if he's telling a secret. ]

He's actually really great at it and can be kind of scary sometimes, but it's awesome. [ then he straightens, running a hand down the front of his shirt. ] I mean, I still think I'm better, but, y'know, he's good.
