ok i'm glad you're here I DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO TL;DR AT YOU ON THE QUESTIONS MEME BUT I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS
so let's lay out that general groundwork by saying that korra is goddamn family and bolin loves her a lot. like she is amazing and beautiful and powerful and the all-around best avatar ever, not that he's biased. he obviously just happens to know and love the people who are the greatest at everything in the world. he can't imagine life without korra anymore and he has no idea where he and mako would even be if it weren't for her because he's shitty at thinking about stuff like that. like he probably tried to think of the overwhelming unlikeliness of korra sneaking into the arena and happening to get caught by toza and him happening to walk by and shit but it was way too big to get hung up on. he loves her and she is like the highest standard of how people should be if they want to be amazing, and she basically saved his family's entire collection of bacon. theres a reason u got both these eyebrow boys hung up on you back then gurl.
a lot of this dynamic from his end comes down to him just really wanting to make her smile and for her to be happy and to realize she is super amazing?? i think he's like that with anyone he considers a friend or family but that sure doesn't make it a less powerful desire. even after everything in canon and each so far he's still kind of had that people-reading problem that carries over into not really being able to imagine korra being nervous or afraid or unsure. like she's always overcome everything in her way she is the boldest!!!1! and so when she admits to stuff like that it makes him kinda sad and makes him want to just make her feel better only he has no idea how so he just kind of ???????? I THINK WITH THE INBOX THREAD THOUGH, HE'S GONNA TRY TO BE MORE MINDFUL OF THAT FROM NOW ON. he's a born hug factory for people with emotional difficulties and an inherent need to be in control/strong SO.
and i think that each stuff has been great for their relationship! they've laughed, they've cried, they've hugged it out, they've nearly lost mako together. SOME SHIT'S GONE DOWN AND THEY'VE GONE THROUGH IT TOGETHER, as opposed to the usual canon setup where they're in different team factions or she's like 100 feet tall in republic city and he's throwing rocks in the spirit world or whatever. and he's really glad that he spined up and did the thing re: telling him things. like it wasn't so much a thing he was holding against her as it is a thing that made him start thinking "welp i better figure out how to make myself more reliable to tell stuff to i guess" and he's trying to work on that but also understands the wanting-to-protect-people thing.... it's complicated bro.
I GUESS TL;DR SHE IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN HIS LIFE AND HE JUST WANTS HER TO BE HAPPY AND CONFIDENT AND WANTS TO HELP HER AND TO BE RELIABLE FOR HER???
