I believe so. There are other familiar faces. {Arwen, Legolas... Then a strange Elf that seems to be fading. He feels...familiar. Historically speaking, of course.}

I was at the Black Gate in Mordor. {His brow furrows.} It seems we can be taken from different times as well.

So we - {It's hard to hide his joy. His expression warms considerably and he takes a deep breath.} You could not bring me better news.

Aye, we defeat him, or rather Frodo and Sam complete their mission and all is right with the world again. And do not ask me if you have a child yet, I haven't been near any inns for gossip!

And who might I have this child with? {His heart screams "Arwen", but he is well-aware of her precarious state. He doesn't want to give into hope or despair.} Are Frodo and Sam well?

That Elf of yours, who else?

[He shakes his head because honestly. Men and Elves are so strange about love and marriage and all that.

Gimli pauses as he thinks how best to answer Aragorn]

...aye. Sam is married himself, and Frodo was allowed to sail west with his cousin Bilbo, or so I've been told.

Arwen lives? {He finds it difficult to swallow. All of his dreams come true. The Ring is destroyed, his friends live, his love lives and he marries her. He knows Arwen will make a wise and gentle Queen; he only hopes he can be such a good King.}

I believe Bilbo is his Uncle. {With Hobbits, such things are hard to keep track of - with their longer lives and many branching family trees, Aragorn too has trouble seeing relationships.} I understand why Frodo would wish for rest. The Ring's taint is not easily forgotten.

Aye, she does, and she makes a lovely queen.

[Before he asks. And Gimli waves off the correction. Hobbits are confusing creatures with a family tree that would make Durin and the other Six Fathers weep. Bilbo is not Frodo's father and that's all that really matters to him.]

No one begrudged either of them their choice from what I've heard. It is a well deserved rest they go to. As for the rest of us? [He laughs] Our work is never done.

I had no doubt she would. She is far wiser than I am. {He admits that happily. Arwen is a blessing to the throne and he feels more at ease with her at his side.} We are meant to carry on and build a world befitting our people.

{His smile is warm. He is prepared.}

The barriers that have separated Men from Elves and Elves from Dwarves must be broken. I wish to see a Middle Earth that experiences only peace.

Your friends are with you as always, laddie. When we are not magicked away to strange lands, at least, and even then we will find you.

For that, I am forever grateful. {There are no words that can properly express his relief.} I hope I can support you in return.

Look for gold and you will find Legolas; Arwen has seated herself away from the feast and the Elf I only half-recognize can be found if you follow his music.

{He stifles a small smile at Gimli's frustration.}

Our hosts are not as thoughtful as they seem.

Your Elf is here as well?

[He ignores the comment about hosts being thoughtful. That was a joke and he knows it. Hmph. Rude.]

She is. Lord Elrond is protective of her - understandably so. Here is a chance for you to know her too.

{Sorry, Gimli. He can't resist a little friendly teasing.}

I would like to meet her properly, yes. Haven't had much time recently, what with my own business taking me elsewhere and she in Gondor to aid you. Away from the feast, you said?

I'll show you the way. {He leads the way on a path that wends its way deeper into the forest.} I do not think you will dislike her. She shares many of Lord Elrond's qualities.
