Prince Edgar | King's Quest | Court TBD
[Though tall and quite handsome, the young fairy prince seems to be doing his best to go unnoticed, lingering against the walls, looking away from eye contact. Despite his evident shyness, he does seem to genuinely want to be there at the feast. He hasn't seen one in a while, and the merry thrum of activity interests him. Yet, he is wary. This place is strange to him, and he is uncertain of the true reasons he has found himself here.
He will talk if approached or called over, but he's nervous. The last feast he went to, he ended up getting kidnapped, after all.]
In a garden somewhere
[Kind, gentle Edgar has long had a fondness for flowers, having kept a few in his childhood home in the castle high in the mountains. Roses are his clear favorite, especially the red ones. He wanders almost aimlessly, giving attention to whatever blossoms catch his eye. He seems less nervous here, but that does not mean he might not be startled by a sudden new presence.]
Choose something else!
[Edgar may be shy, but he's also smart and curious, and can probably be found exploring whatever seems interesting, if no one's given him any other tasks.]
GARDEN
Your pardon sir, I did not know that there were others here tonight.
no subject
...nor did I. Excuse me, I didn't mean to intrude.
[The ainsel catches his attention, though, and he watches with a delighted fascination.]
Who is your friend there?
no subject
Nay - do not apologise - tis a public area, after all. [ Preening, she zips over to curtsy for Edgar before suddenly shy darting back to hide in Maglor's hair, and his lips quirk in amusement ]
This little one? She is my dear friend - she will not tell me her name in her own tongue, but the one she likes was granted by Master Solo - Sketto, he calls her, and she has accepted it.
no subject
[He blushes faintly, but offers a smile.]
I'm Edgar.
....I thought I hit post on this ages ago
Well met, Edgar - Maglor, I am. I would bid you welcome but tis a poor one, I fear, drawn from our own worlds to peril and grief in this one. You must be new, I think - I do not think I have seen you before, and the Feasts are on again.
Fairies, man. They mess with you.
I am. But I don't understand why I keep being pulled from my home like this. I only just got back again and now I'm here. Solais and Morla... It's just like Genesta and Lolotte all over again. I suppose this is what they mean by these things happening in threes. My mind and body don't seem to have been changed this time, but...
[A long sigh.]
...my parents will be so sad and worried about me...
/shakes fist at fairies
I am sorry. [ He drops his eyes ] It is hard, to be sundered from family. And to be sundered repeatedly...
Fairy babes just can't keep their hands off this boy.
I barely know my parents. I was just a baby the first time it happened, and they didn't find me until I was grown. They were going to have a ball in honor of my homecoming, everyone there to welcome back their long-lost prince, but the night of the party, I went into the gardens, and... Well, the exact details are fuzzy, but my mother's sister took me and enslaved my mind so I would help her with her plot.
no subject
That is a cruel tale indeed. Your kinfolk sound ... well. [ a huff ]
I would say you are safe here, but there is no safety in a war, particularly not one where the rulers are so intent on continuing but... [ Maglor reaches a tentative hand to brush across Edgar's briefly ]
At the least, you are free of your enthrallment now.
no subject
[He looks a little confused by the touch. Strangers don't usually touch him. But he doesn't pull away.]
I've never been part of a war before. But, someone wanting to destroy things... that I've dealt with before. More than I wish I could say.
no subject
War is never a pleasant thing, even if sometimes it is necessary. The problem in this fight is knowing who tells the truth, for I suspect both courts lie. I hope you find a measure of peace here, Master Edgar - but they will seek to use you, on both sides. At the least, this time it will be your choice.
no subject
I... don't know them well enough to say but... It's probably less a matter of knowing what is truth and what is not, and being able to see how the truth has been shaped. Sometimes, it is twisted and diminished... Sometimes, it is made too beautiful to be the way it should. [He's looking at his hands as he says this, almost examining them.]
no subject
Feels foul and looks fair hm? [ Maglor tips his head, watching the young man thoughtfully ] You speak wisely, and, I think, that wisdom came hard won.
[ He looks up at the castle and sighs softly ]
But a truth wrapped in a lie is still a lie. [ he says softly, and there is something dark in his eyes ]
no subject
They won't see it that way, though.
[He doesn't comment on the hard-won wisdom.]
no subject
Too many, it seems, prefer to accept the lie, if it keeps them happy and content.
garden
But he expects this garden to be more or less empty, which is why he suddenly drops out of the sky a few yards away, landing cushioned by a small upward gust of wind. He speaks, seemingly, to his cloak-] Thanks again, everyone.
[-and then realizes that this garden is not actually empty, at which point he stops short. For a brief moment he doesn't even move, before he lifts a hand to wave slightly. Oops.]
Pardon the intrusion.
no subject
It's all right. Have you come to enjoy the flowers as well?
no subject
Not quite... I was looking for someone- I thought he might be out here. [Lurking, not looking at flowers.] But I guess it's just us and the flowers.

no subject
[This complete with a gesture, vaguely miming the dimensions of said big sword - "taller than me" and "like a foot wide," more or less.]
no subject
No, I'm sorry, I haven't. He might have passed through before I got here.

[...]
Preferably not here, now that I think of the flowers...
