[ he laughs and it's deep and quiet at the same time. nothing's an invitation until a woman says it is, and he believes he's fairly skilled at reading body language and intentions. ] Don't forget to take the clothes off his back when you do it, if you do.

[ karma's cruel. ]

Good evening, I hope. [ the dining hall's more of a pavilion so he can't circle around it and pour her a glass of wine like the gentleman he is. Dyson passes her the wine all the same, as close to her glass as he can manage without outstretching his arm and tipping something over. ] It's surprisingly good wine for being all you can drink.

[ there are days, and in the last few years there seems to be plenty of those, in which Arthur Pendragon has to wonder about the odd happenings in his life. In-between suspecting his manservant has a tendency to wear dresses and his father marrying a troll, one would think he'd get used to this sort of things.

one would think and one would be a bigger idiot than Merlin to think so.

Because for all that he has been through, being dragged about by little troll-like creatures is downright insulting.

( he is not, he is not admitting they managed to knock him out.

to a n y o n e )

needless to say, the whole being dragged out by weird ugly beings to a place that wasn't Camelot left Arthur somewhat unhappy.

or royally pissed off.

he looks down one of the cups, inspects the golden liquid with an expression that reads of utter, unadulterated disgust. ]

I am not drinking that.

[It may have been more familiar to Janine, but she wasn't in the body she'd had during the human era. Everything here was cramped. All the people were tiny, all the items moreso. Of course, she was rather large.

When she was human she was about fourteen, and so her 'voice' is young. Young, and inclined to sarcasm. Coming out onto the patio, air ruffling her furlike coat, she sees Beleg playing with a tablet and snorts. The hollow chamber in her beak makes it a rather resonant sound.]

:I can't believe that's really a computer. Pieces of glass? Really?:

Ahwww! Young love! My favourite! What do you mean, though — my scarf? Psh, I must have a thousand of those. You went to see Hephy?

A fair observation. [ He says and with a lightest cant of his head, pulls her into a whirl. Putting into motion all that he observed just now and all that he had learned at Aragorn's court. His friend certainly enjoyed making things a touch difficult for Legolas, and dancing in the ways of the Men was one of the easier ways to confuse him at the beginning. He caught on quickly and the beginnings were hardly graceless, but Aragorn still found joy and amusement in the startled and confused looks. ] Though it may not necessarily be so that the shards we are said to carry were granted on warriors and warriors alone. I have not spoken with enough folk here to be able to tell.

[ Only a handful to start, those who bothered him and such that seemed most curious to him, most strange or knowledgeable. ]

The fairies themselves speak in riddles almost, share what they will without much in terms of true content, but with plenty of unnecessary padding.

[ Elves liked beautiful speech, rhymes and poems, songs that could go on for hours. Legolas was no different, but a warrior at his core, and seeking information and knowledge to see the bigger picture, he preferred answers concise and meaningful.

The corner of his lips remains quirked, the humour not lost on him though her speech is odd to him. ]

It could tire even an elf, indeed.

I will, thank you for the kind reminder. Good evening to you, too.

[ What a darling, wow. Tossing her hair over a shoulder, she regards him with interest over her refilled goblet, leaning forward when she licks her lips and replies. Yes, that bottle is staying close to her, good call. ]

It's better than the stuff up north that the Unseelie drink. I am never crashing one of their parties again, let me tell you — it's awesome fun, but you don't wanna party with people who are actually a little cuckoo, know what I mean?

[ Wait, no. ]

My brother would've loved it but, like, that's Ares, so? Predictably, he would.

[ His back straightens when she snaps, a hand going to the hilt of his dagger. Peter loves danger almost as much as he enjoys making new friends, and he's pleased she's turning out to be fun in both respects. ]

My Wendy is sometimes called Wendybird by my Lost Boys, but she has neither the mighty wings or beautiful feathers. She flies quite badly. [ Sorry, Wendy, it's true. ] Are you a bird? Is that what a Quet— a pterosaur is?

[ It might be a little too simply to say that Hermione was panicking; in fact, it was probably more than a little obvious that she was fretting beyond what might be considered 'normal', attacking her newly obtained locket to try and find information while, at the same time, opening the map and doing her very best to examine it and try and find out what on earth was going on. While she might be rather good at handling herself under pressure it's also very safe to say that Hermione could very easily give in to panic.

Hence the wide-eyed gaze, the tangle of hair around her face and the quick movements of her hands as she goes, trying to learn whatever she can as quickly as she can.

Completely ignoring the feast, Hermione sits to one side, pursing her lips and lifting the map to take a better look at it. After a few moments she takes a few long, deep breaths, leaning back and reciting what she's been told over and over, like a mantra, as she tries to work out what the best way to get home is. She's tried using her magic and that, at least, seems to be working well enough (a quick 'accio' wasn't much of an example, though...)

The entertainment around her might be lovely and she knows that, really, she should eat something, or at least drink something, but she's still in the middle of her mixed panic and confusion and she's really not paying much attention to the world around her. ]

[ He has witnessed the coming of Glaurung's brood, seen beasts of terrifying countenance slice through the sky and blot out the sun, knows of tales where scaled monsters sweetly coaxed noble hearts to their doom — and not once has he ever heard about any of them pardoning themselves to get a snack. Staring after her wide-eyed, his defenses are raised when the Voice of a young girl resonates in his mind, the invasion such a casual thing that Thranduil cannot fully feel at ease with it (even though, he supposes as he watches the creature devour a roast bird whole, it is better to be warned of its coming than not). ]

You are excused. [ Fascinated, wary, grey eyes sweep over her. ] Though I think it impossible for anyone not to grant you a pardon, if you strongly desired one.

[ After composing herself a little and gathering herself, her thoughts and what little she had learned about this place, Hermione thought it best to go out of her way and try and find someone to talk to, someone who might know what's going on. Seeing someone else that looks as discomforted and unsure as she does (though, admittedly, quite a lot more angry) is a little reassuring, at least, and she steps closer to lean in to speak to the man. ]

I don't think they're going to poison us, if that's what's worrying you.

[ ... Probably not the best opening line, really, but Hermione takes a deep breath and holds out her hand, back straight and expression as open and friendly as she can force it to be, given the awkwardness of the situation as a whole. ]

I'm Hermione Granger.

I will do so, Roxas.

[ Giving a demure nod, he watches him attentively. ]

You are not lost, I trust? The feast is a merrier affair than these dark corridors and I think it wise to remain close to the clamour of it, if you seek your friend. It is more than likely he will venture there.

Should I count on a change of heart when I return?

[ Like many mortals are wont to, with time their feelings change easily, almost with no effort whatsoever on their part; a stark difference to the ways of the elves. The feelings of mortals could be fickle like a leaf on a gust of wind, fluttering here and there, driven by a force beyond their imagination.

Still, though, Legolas can't quite wipe the amusement off his face or out of his voice. ]

You need not more reasons to convince me to set out as soon as possible, however.

[With how young her...'voice' sounds, Roxas is simply assuming that she's around his-- er, Sora's age. Meanwhile, he's going to be brushing himself off a bit and making sure his hair is okay.]

Like a jungle? [Hakuna matata and all that jazz.] Do I have to worry about giant spiders from your world too?

[Not that he's worried. It's just a bad attempt at keeping the conversation away from a certain spirit.]

[ The distress of the girl isn't at all as subtle as she might think, albeit secluded as she is from conversation and merry meals all around. Thranduil himself is kindly to those who speak with him yet his thoughts are ever with his son and kingdom, anxious over his sundering. It is one of the reasons the tall Elvenking approaches the bushy-haired girl poring over her map, a goblet idly kept in-hand for an excuse not to fidget, his control great enough that he is grateful not to be so fervent in his alarm as she. ]

May I be of assistance, child?

[ Her eyes flicker up quickly when she's addressed and, for a moment, her mouth drops open. Hermione wasn't exactly expecting anyone to go out of their way to help her or even talk to her, really (she's far too used to people ignoring the panicked girl in the back of the library) but, after a moment, she forces a bright smile. ]

Oh, no, I'm fine... I think. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can about this place before I go and, um. Join in?
firith: (beech ·)

[personal profile] firith 2014-03-16 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Quite possibly.

[ And it's for that very reason he refuses to indulge them; they would only tire of his son in time, fickle and vapid in the ways of devotion. (Never mind the fact he will not, under any circumstances, condone his son surrendering his immortality.) ]

I would have you stay with me as long as possible, if it were prudent, but it is not. Return to the castle in a day or two, share a meal with me before you decide to leave again. That is all I ask.

[.............That's a good point, actually. Maybe running around randomly wasn't a good idea, and Sora's kind of a party animal when he wants to be.]

You're probably right. [Although--] But Sora isn't the kind to sit around without knowing what's going on.

[Especially if he's not sure where his friends are, even though he wouldn't be looking for him. Siiigh.]

Why are you out here, then?

[ The incline of his nod is subtle, a thoughtful gesture. ]

I hear there is a great library, though I cannot say if the way will be barred at this hour. It might be better to eat and rest awhile, to clear your head, before seeking answers. [ A hand slides from behind his back momentarily, gesturing to the loud feast. ] They are not of a mind to help anyone tonight.

[Mordred grew up hearing plenty of stories about the fairy Courts during his time in the druid camps, and learned a bit about all their kith and kin. His people had peace with all manner of forest spirits, and he'd never had any quarrel with them.

But he's a knight of Camelot now, the red cape with its golden dragon falling from his shoulders. And he's never heard of this gemstone. So Mordred watches the revelry with alert eyes and a silence that gives nothing away. He pretends to sip from his goblet and politely turns away the food, but at first chance he's exploring one of those dark hallways for a way out.
]

Hello? Who goes there?

Really? A library? [ If there was anything that would get Hermione moving it was the promise of a library. She could learn practically anything she wanted if she tried hard enough and the thought that she could burrow into some books... Well, it was more than enough to perk her up. ]

You're right, I should eat something, at least, otherwise nothing is going to sink in. [ Standing, she puts her map to one side and offers her hand with a soft smile. ] My name is Hermione - Hermione Granger.

[ A thought that has not once took shape in Legolas' mind, not even during the years he has been witnessing the work of time on friends dear to his heart beyond any measure. Greying hair, backs bending under the weight of age, hands that once firmly held a sword or an axe weakening. Watching Men and Dwarves great reach the ages of ruin wounded him deeply, and he did what was only in his power to make the most of the time they granted to spend together, but there was one thing he could not and would not do or consider: joining them in their mortality.

He was what he was and he learned ways to cope with all that went about him. ]

You ask so little, father. [ Legolas tilts his head back, to look directly up at Thranduil. ] I could do more than that and please say nothing of the prudency of it. I have been amiss to leave the way I did.

[ After a moment, Hermione peeks out from behind a darkened pillar, looking a little lost and wide-eyed, more like a lost cat than anything else. Perking up when she sees someone who, she hopes, isn't likely to hurt her, she steps out and smiles weakly, moving forward to do nothing more than offer her hand in greeting. ]

Just me. I'm Hermione Granger, I was just looking for a library - or the library.

I intend to visit it myself, come morning. Perhaps we shall find our paths crossing once more.

[ Clasping her hand, he gives it a brief shake; an odd custom, but one he observes without faltering. ]

Thranduil of the Woodland Realm — Mirkwood, in the Common Tongue. Well met, Miss Granger. [ Turning slightly, he invites her to the slice of table previously vacated in order to speak with her. ] If you wish to continue perusing your map while you eat, I shall not take offense. I may even join you in this endeavour.
