king jas | cpt hook; adventures of a notorious youth
[ Jas is not worldly in the truest sense of the world. his experience extends from the edges of Britain to the fringe of Africa, the planks of the ship he grabbed as his own and the life lessons it has taught him. all else comes from the pages of books and the flourish of his own imagination. perhaps others would be more skeptical, being whisked away to a magical land filled with wonder and promise—
but James Matthew has been seeking magic for a long time now. of all men, women and children to be snatched by the fairy folk, his kidnapping would have been simple, because on the cusp of sleep he has dreamed of such marvels.
he isn't disappointed.
the feast is as grand as anything Shakespeare could have dreamed up, and the glitter in Jas' eye tells of great glee— though whether this is to the benefit of those around him or not, it's difficult to tell from the mischievous quirk of his lips. this isn't his Island, he knows because that place is naked and his to rule, once he gets there, but Jas is not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. this is an adventure in it's own right.
he swaggers along the tables not like a boy who has been coaxed here, but as though he owns them, and the dark curls of his long hair swing against his shoulder as he leans over whomever might be seated to pick a golden apple right off the table. ]
What do you think? [ he engages conversationally ] Are we like Persephone, that in eating a morsel of this feast we will be trapped here for ever?

It isn't his fault.
They have cake after all. ]
D'you mean like the Persephone that's sort of kidnapped and held hostage- or the Persephone that becomes Dread Queen of the Underworld? Because I'm rather more willing for one than the other all things considered.
omfg
You plan on becoming Dread Queen, Jolly Roger?

[ For lack of anything to do with his hands (as they have yet to settle the Are We Eating question) Jolly's fingers light on the carved backing of a particularly ornate chair. He doesn't care much for the upholstery. ]
no subject
We've been indoctrinated into war. It's rather a bit of both, don't you think?
[ then he turns to Jolly and rolls his wrist, holding the apple out to him palm up. the bright blue of his eyes shine. ]
You can't really trust a fairy to keep it's word. Or so I've heard.

[ His teeth leave an imperfect circle torn away from the apple's side, and he hasn't even swallowed by the time he offers it back. ]

[ thought he quirk of his mouth doesn't leave, Jas watches his face shrewdly as his companion chews and swallows, never looking away even as he takes the apple back from his hand. when no immediate ill befalls his friend, only then does he take a bite for the apple himself. he then leans his elbow on the table. ]
no subject
[ He knows Jas is watching him. But the thought that his friend would be waiting- wanting to see what (if anything) will happen before he too takes a bite- simply doesn't occur to him.
Jolly Roger always has been a loyalist.
He's also still eyeing that cake. ]
Is that where the war part comes in? I hadn't really been listening I'm afraid. It was all rather distracting.
