I suppose it might, indeed! Well, since he is not here, I suppose I must ask for him instead, eh? What drew you to him first, little niece?

Hmm. [She looks thoughtful, smiling.]

He was very kind. I suppose that was what first drew me to him. He showed me around Imladris during my first days there.

He must have been so proud! And was he shy, little niece, or bold?

A bit of both, really. He hardly met my eyes that day but he did not hesitate to tell me all I wanted to know of his home.

Ah, well. At least he knew how to properly entertain you! Elros would be proud - he used to get all tongue-tied, you know, when talking to a pretty ellith or lady! How long before he took you dancing, I wonder, or asked you for a walk himself, rather than being strangely in your way when you went out!

He was more quiet, much of the time, than tongue-tied. And it was some time actually before he asked me to dance and he was frequently simply nearby when I took a walk.

Yes, he was always fond of that trick, until he gained enough courage to bring whatever was on his mind up. He did that to me sometimes too, although obviously not for such delicate issues as the ones he doubtless wished to bring up with you!

It took him a long time to bring up anything delicate. Nearly two thousand years. And then he had to ask my parents for my hand. [She's sure Maglor can imagine how that went.]

Ah me. That boy was always too nervous about such things. And what did your parents say when he finally gathered the courage?

Mother knew already what he wanted. Mother knew about Elrond courting me long before I chose to announce it. My father was less pleased. He's known Elrond longer than I have but he still was not sure he was good enough for his little girl.

I think all fathers suffer that affliction, no? At least, I assume so, based on how Falmamiriel's father treated me!

Hm, perhaps they do. He did concede though, seeing how I loved him more than anyone else that had ever tried for my affection.

That is for the good - I am glad for the both of you, little niece. You truly do suit each other.

I am glad that you think so, Uncle. I cannot imagine life without him now.

[bythewaves]

Nor he without you, no doubt. That he was strong enough to endure without you - he is every bit his father's son. I will see you home with him little niece, if it is at all within my power.

I would see us all home if possible, you know it. But I do long to be with him again.

Aye, I do, little niece. But if there must be a choice, I would rather you take it than I.

I would hope that choice won't need to be made. I know that Elrond would like to see you again as well.

I know... all we can do is hope, although it feels as if we are forsaken.
