[ Roy ought to hear joyful Elvish songs. The weaving of illumination under Varda's veiling stars which first touched the Eldar is beautiful, he knows, and the song is one close to the hearts of all elves, but to hear the woodland call of summer and crisp green leaves, new life — it would prove far more healing. Those verses no longer lie readied in his breast these days, not easily exhumed.

The surrounding din closes back in on them and what lightness Roy offers to veer the subject away from any awkward emotions is immediately picked up by Thranduil, in part because he has no idea what manner of compliment he received albeit actually being one. ]

Millions of what?

[ Songs, he supposes, but who would want to make millions? That's a little much even for the Elvenking himself. ]

Curious.

[ And unsettling, but not Bilbo's fault in the slightest. He sighs somewhat for show, and offers the same smile as before. ]

I am Thranduil, Elvenking of Taur e-Ndaedelos which was Mirkwood in the Common Tongue, before its renaming to Eryn Lasgalen. [ Smaug? That long, and it cannot help him to reveal the nature of his quest's ending ...] It has been many years since last I spoke with you or the company of dwarves you travelled with, Master Baggins.

[ Nobles are a fickle lot. That he had learned long ago; and as the city writhed and changed, perhaps ironically it could be said that the nobility were the ones more resilient to the change, hidden behind unclean money and walls and death and prayers to the one with pitless depths for eyes. If only they knew the Outsider was laughing at them.

The fainest glow of his Mark, and the world colors just a little more red and shadows fade, and he squints at a glimpse of the man, notes how he moves back with practiced precision. One used to the art of disappearing.

Or not being there at all.

The bone charm? Not entirely useless, and ultimately, something Corvo would want to keep, if only for the sake of the smallest power he draws from it (bitterly, no less). As far as he understood it, bone charms had a small tendency to drive a person mad with the persistent humming and nightmares, tendrils of wet bone dripping against metal, as though swimming in the Outsider's murk.

But this? Was a distraction from the dulling, headache-inducing sweetness of the court at hand. So Corvo proceeds on with no shortcoming of surety, further from the noise, edging closer into less crowded, dimmer hallways.

You want the thing? Come and get it.

[Why indeed.

That throws him through a loop, leaving him just a tad confused and just a little irritated at the well-meaning Wizard. He waves a hand, trying to politely decline the offered mushrooms.]
I-I'm fine thank you... No, but this is very serious! I have no idea where we are and...

[She's not alone in looking lost, a silver haired elf weaving her way between others that seem to be enjoying this more than either of them. Celebrían's squared her shoulders by now though, trying to seem in control, and is looking at each person as she passes them, looking for someone familiar but finding no one so far.

When she see's Lúthien though, she pauses. Not out of recognition of who she is, she was born well after her time, but because there's someone that looks as lost and unsure as herself.

Clearly they should keep one another company!]

[Lúthien started when she saw the creature, and briefly froze, wondering what she was supposed to do in this sort of situation. But it seemed friendly - at the very least it did not seem threatening, and so after a few moments she relaxes. Not much, not enough to be off her guard, but she was fairly sure that it was the one who had been speaking to her, in whatever way it had just managed, and it didn't seem polite to look like you want to flee when you're in the middle of a conversation.]

I... don't believe I understand the question.
smallshoes: (said,be good to yourself.)

[personal profile] smallshoes 2014-03-21 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand, Miss Cress.

[And she does, even if she's bred for balls. Putting yourself out there can be hard sometimes, and Cress seems so uncomfortable. Elizabeth wishes she had her seamstress Nina at the ready - Make her something lovely! she'd say. But she can't help with that part, not right now.]

I'm all right, thank you. [Mostly.] What about yourself? Forgive me, but you don't seem very at ease.

[Well, of course not, Lizzie. No one would be at ease at a time like this. She's good at coming off as oblivious, though, so she can't help but say it.]
rapunzelf: (Default)

[personal profile] rapunzelf 2014-03-21 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[Whereas for Lúthien, it's Celebrían's hair that catches her attention. She's feeling more timid than normal, but that is some version of familiarity, no matter the elf beneath the hair. So she smiled and slipped closer.]

I had thought that I knew nearly every elf with hair such as yours, and was related to most of them. Apparently you are one of those I never had the fortune to meet.

Unless...

This is a separate world - are you from Arda, as am I? I wouldn't have thought this place was possible until I saw it.
smallshoes: (& time demands its toll.)

so do you! seeing roy was such a pleasant surprise. i'm still reeling.

[personal profile] smallshoes 2014-03-21 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! [Overcome by the gesture, Lizzie takes the little bird in both hands, looking down at it like it's a treasure.] How lovely! What a nice— [And then she blushes, feeling like she's going about this all wrong. She'd wanted to help; she wants to help everyone she sees here, all the people brought by the fairies, because on her honor as a Middleford, it's her duty. But instead this man had cheered her up just like that, and she's not very good at cheering someone up when they turn the tables on her first.]

It's not you who's scared me, [she murmurs, looking down shyly.] It's this ghastly place. [And then she looks back up, to his face.] Are you scared too, sir?
windowpain: (Perhaps I'll die upon this train.)

[personal profile] windowpain 2014-03-21 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She'll find a man sitting with his back to the stone, hugging his knees and weeping into them. But at the sound of her voice, his head lifts, and a single eye looks up at her, fringed with white lashes, red-rimmed, and still brimming with tears. The other eye isn't visible, hidden beneath bandages.

He gazes at her, after a moment seeming to notice her tear-spotted face. He turns his head from her, forcefully, and his body tenses, as if he were going to run away. But after an apparent internal struggle, he turns back and chokes out the words: ]

Y-yes, my lady?
pterosaur: (⅋I could get along the same)

[Poor Luthien is immediately labeled 'a little dense' by Janine.]

:What's up - or, what's going on, how are you, what are you doing. It's convenient shorthand. I thought you looked confused.:
rapunzelf: (Default)

[personal profile] rapunzelf 2014-03-21 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[She looses a little more of that edge and tilts her head, looking thoughtful.]

I see. It's not an expression I'd heard before. Where does it come from? -oh. Yes, I'm....

Well, I'm here, anyway.

[And that couldn't be changed, or she hadn't found a way to change it, not thus far.]
pterosaur: (Default)

[personal profile] pterosaur 2014-03-21 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
:Flapling custom. When we're little and trying to figure out how to fly we ask a lot of questions. Some people just hang on to it once we're flighted.:

[...Janine, please.]

:Yep, you are. Guess you got the whole spiel, huh, about the war and stuff?:

[ it's a history told to her not only by katara but tenzin too, so perhaps there were some glossed over details here and there. and while korra knows there's absolutely no way for her to be the same type of avatar as aang, she does want to live up to his legacy while also being true to herself. it's a fine line to walk, but she seems to be doing pretty good so far, regardless of consequences.

but she can tell persuing that line of conversation's not going to get her anywhere, so she lets it go for now. ]

Not much. I didn't plan on sticking around the party too long, and you're the first person I've talked to. [ beat ] Well, other than the yahoos that brought me here.
aiwendil: ({ready for a fight})

[personal profile] aiwendil 2014-03-21 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Very serious indeed! [Radagast nods, his eyes darting back and forth nervously for a moment. He's still not sure why he of all wizards would have been brought here, really]

We'll just have to find out, hm? [Radagast gives the hobbit a toothy smile, maybe there would be peril but at least this is no wizard who will just give up.]
aiwendil: ({sputtering})

[personal profile] aiwendil 2014-03-21 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're done staring, we shall find a way out! [The wizard gestures for Beleg to follow him, glancing around nervously and on edge as he starts walking.

So many walls, such a confining place, it really baffles him now no one else seems to be worried about it.]
rapunzelf: (Default)

[personal profile] rapunzelf 2014-03-21 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[She brightens visibly no don't do that to her she'll totally buy it SHE TRUSTS PEOPLE TO BE NICE....]

I see! I know none but the birds who learn to fly, but I've never heard anything of the kind from them.

Yes, I... have. It's not really.... But I suppose it doesn't matter, if we can't leave.
pterosaur: (⅋That is nothing new)

[personal profile] pterosaur 2014-03-21 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Luthien seems a bit dim, but sweet. For now.]

:Pterosaurs like me can get on okay without flying. We're not half bad at this groundpounding thing, so it can take a while.:

[Janine tips her head in a way that suggests a raised eyebrow.]

:Don't wanna fight? Yeah, this conscription thing is pretty sketchy.:
rapunzelf: (Default)

[personal profile] rapunzelf 2014-03-21 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hey just because she's lived at home in a culture that doesn't have those expressions....]

Is that what you are? I was wondering if you were a dragon.

[And here we have one of the few elves who'd think that without instantly running for the hills. Dragons are another of those things she hasn't encountered.]

No. And I don't imagine my Father would approve - so perhaps it's for the best he's not here after all. In any case, he and Mother are probably still as safe as they can be, back home. Mother's power is enough to protect, after all.
pterosaur: (⅋Many people do.)

[personal profile] pterosaur 2014-03-21 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
:Quetzalcoatlus. We are to pterosaurs what eagles are to birds. If, you know, all birds but eagles were gone and you saved the best for last. People think we're dragons sometimes.:

[She's not sure if she should claim she is or not. Quetzes are azhdarchids and azhdarchids take that name from Persian for dragon... yeah, okay.]

:I've heard we're descended from the dragon Aždarha, but I don't know if that's true or someone was pulling my beak. - Trying to trick me into believing something silly.:

[The other three will be fine where they are. Right? Surely they can't need her now.] :Huh. Is this your first time away from them?:
heroyic: (( thought. ))

i can only hope i do him justice, then!

[personal profile] heroyic 2014-03-21 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He laughs, numbly — a low, soft susurrus of sound. She sounds like every British stereotype he's ever heard on the radio. The big yellow sausage curls are the proverbial cherry on top of the whole picture. ]

It's no place for kids, that's for sure. [ And so he not-so-neatly sidesteps the question.

—yeah, he's scared. He's terrified. More than he's ever been, maybe. ]
Which means I don't belong here any more than you do. [ Might as well pass the time, and this kid's better company than all the rest of the room put together. ] I'm Roy, by the way. You can pull up a chair and tell me your name in return for the bird.
smallshoes: (said,be good to yourself.)

[personal profile] smallshoes 2014-03-22 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Mister Roy, [she addresses lightly, gathering her spirits and using them to puff herself up. If Lizzie's good at anything (aside from swordplay), it's cheer. She smooths down her skirts and works on dragging a chair closer, avoiding eye contact with any of the fair folk.

She settles in, and the bird takes its seat of honor atop the table, just in front of her. Well, maybe the cheer is just on the edge of hysterical, taut and out of place. She folds her hands in her lap and tries not to drum her fingers.]

I'm Elizabeth Middleford. It's very nice to meet you. Despite, the, ehm... [Now she does drum her fingers, oh dear, that's not very ladylike, is it?] Circumstances, [she finishes, smiling more awkwardly than she'd care to.]
notavirtue: (we thought YOU would)

I'll take the tiny version!

[personal profile] notavirtue 2014-03-22 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Javik had come to the station after hearing technology worked there, only to find it was worse than what he'd been stuck with back on the Normandy. He'd walked a long way for very little reward, apparently, and resigned himself to resting here for a day or two before leaving. Cobwebs and balls of dust were usually entirely ignored by him, but one that was glowing was hard to pass. Another unique quirk of the landscape, he guessed, four eyes watching the little creature dart to and fro.

When she spoke, he squinted at her, taking a moment to decide that the spider really had just talked. He'd be less inclined to believe it if he hadn't been dragged out of the middle of a firefight by imps and brought here in the first place. He took another step closer, inclining his head towards the arachnid.]

Is there something in particular about it that I should find aesthetically pleasing?
silvergift: colors edited by me (dns) ([021])

[personal profile] silvergift 2014-03-22 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
[She smiles as well, tucking her hair back almost self-consciously at the mention of it. There aren't many, that she knows of, that have this color hair any more. Her father is the only person that she can honestly think of.

That line of thinking doesn't last long though. It's a pleasant realization, knowing that there's another from Arda here. Having someone from home feels almost like an anchor.]

Arda, yes, I am. And I'm glad I may add to those you know with silver hair.

Khalid Ben-Hassin/Doctor Fate | DCnU

[personal profile] fatedtobe 2014-03-22 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
01 [The castle is far and away far different from what Khalid knows, and the splendor of Caer Glaem especially is a far cry from the battlefields he's come to know all too recently. Even the Tower of Fate didn't stand up to where he found himself, and he finds himself clinging to the golden helmet as he looks at the food on the tables. After the slightest bought of insanity while being escorted here, he's lucid and unsure about all of this. It's bad enough he's fighting one war back home, but now he's fighting another? And he's doing it for people who, if myths are true, aren't really ever to be trusted.

Great, just wonderful. And here he thought Superman was all he had to worry about.

But that aside he's more focused on finding a corner to hide away in and figure things out, fingers tapping against the helmet as he tries to make his way towards one, accidentally bumping into someone as he does.
]

I'm sorry.
