bilbo baggins | the hobbit (dos)
[Bilbo Baggins was at a complete loss.
Surely, surely he thought that after everything he had been through, all the horrors and utterly strange experiences, that he could feel at least a little bit prepared for anything else the Gods felt like throwing at him. That while the current that swept him from his home over a year ago continually threatened to drown him at the worst of times, that by now he at least knew how to swim well enough to keep his head above the water.
This... This was completely beyond him and he hardly knew where to start when the idea of returning home surfaced. After all if everything he was told was true, if the map in his hands was right, he was very far from home indeed.
Bilbo sat on a marble bench with a view of a garden before him that reminded him fondly of Rivendell. Everything felt so much like the familiar lands he once traveled and yet at the same time they were completely different. Bilbo didn't feel he was wise enough to understand the strange disconnection between this world and his, but it tickled his mind still. The idea of an entirely new world, full of potential and discoveries was dampened by the grim reminder of what exactly he left behind before arriving here unwillingly.
He sighed, looking down at the locket with a frown as he turns it over between his hands, fingers tracing the intricate design. Next to him on the bench is the map he was originally given, wrinkled from already constant use.]
I had to.
He really shouldn't be surprised to find others seeking refuge from the party, but he wasn't expecting someone visibly younger than him to be sitting around by himself.]
Hey kid, are you okay?
[
Oh, you're one to talk, Roxas. It's a good distraction from his own thoughts, and maybe he should go back and get another plate of sweets? Desserts make everything better.]excuse u, roxas...!!!!
If possible Bilbo's frown only deepens as he realizes that unfortunately there will always be someone mistaking him for a child. He wrinkles his nose.]
Assuming you are speaking to me I will tell you I am not a child. [Bilbo straightens up some, sniffing.] ... But yes, I- I am quite fine. [A small lie.]
no subject
A-ah, sorry...You-- yeah, sorry. [He sincerely means it at least, although he's not exactly meeting eye contact for a moment as he rubs the back of his neck. There's no excusing the mistake he just made. So embarrassing.
Ahem, cough, need to move on now.]
I don't think most people who've just been taken from their world would be fine...Unless you live here. [But yeah, no. Doesn't seem like it.]

It's a man, tall and fair, with long dark hair and wearing an armour that speaks of skilled craft and wealth. He's armed, and while it may well be there for show there is a certain purpose in his step that indicates that he well knows how to use it. He will simply stay there in the dark, ignoring the other person on the balcony completely. Not that he isn't aware of him, but he doesn't know of him, could not say where he is from or what his purpose is, and in a place like this sees no reason to immediately feel anything towards him, for better or worse. His thoughts are on other matters, for a while.]

A surprise for another day, fortunately.
His experience with Elves and how to deal with them was sadly very short. So he musters up no small amount of courage and carefully walks over to the Elf's side, both hands clutched together in front of his chest to keep himself from fidgeting. He offers a small, polite smile and when he speaks he winces at how timid his voice comes out at first.]
Ah- Hello!

Yes?

There sits one Magnificent hobbit in our midst, this day. Can he be Bilbo Elf-Friend?
no subject
It was an extremely awkward position for him to be in and while seemingly necessary (confounded Thorin with his blasted temper) he could not shake the guilt he felt staying in a home (unknowingly) unwelcome and uninvited. Somehow he would have to repay the King for Bilbo was nothing if not at least decently well-mannered.
So imagine his surprise when he is approached by the Elfking himself. Bilbo straightens up, the locket in his hand forgotten for the moment in favor for Thranduil's friendly words. Something didn't add up here.]
Certainly I am Bilbo, but a magnificent Hobbit is doubtful. [As does the title Elf-friend, but he'll roll with the punches here as best he can.] No, I am but a simple Hobbit, your Majesty.
no subject
You speak as one wearied. [ Keen eyes have not failed to notice what Bilbo was doing, even from a distance and before their task halted. ] Does the locket trouble you so?
no subject
[He looks back down at the locket, thumb idly tracing over the raised designs.] Many things about this... place trouble me. I fear I am in shock still and I cannot shake it. [No matter how much he may huff and gruff at himself because of it.
He wrinkles his nose, his worried expression shifting to one of thinly veiled annoyance.] And to be completely honest, if you will pardon me, this entire ordeal is ill-mannered! Very... very rude.
no subject
Is it? I found the fairies that led me thither to be most polite.
[ His own locket is slid out of his robes, clicking it open to show Bilbo how to do so. ]
no subject
Oh, yes they were quite civil towards me as well... [He trails off, lost in a particularly worrisome thought if his current expression is anything to go by.
Hearing the subtle click of Thranduil's locket opening brings him back, a curious sparkle in his eye now aimed at the contraption.]
Does it work? Can you really... communicate through it like they said?

screeches excitedly at
His heart leaps at a familiar face, dream or no, and Kili beams, rushing towards the hobbit with all the grace of a clumsy elephant.]
Bilbo!
8>!!! omfg that user name....
Kili, oh goodness...! [He moves off the bench to meet the young dwarf halfway, hands twisting each other in front of him. Quickly he remembers the state Kili was in before they left and his heart jumps.] Your leg- Are you alright? Surely you shouldn't be trampling all over like this... [He trails off, glancing around.]
Where's Fili and Bofur? They were with you, yes?
i'm so proud of it tbh
I'm fine, all healed, see? [He gestures to his leg. There's not even a slight limp or anything.] Not a clue how, though.
[Bilbo's question makes him hesitate, his smile fading as he looks around, as though expecting to see Fili just pop out of nowhere.] Well aye but...I haven't seen them. But all of this... [He gestures vaguely around them.]
It has to be a dream, doesn't it?
i get a good chuckle outta it every time i see it
They were so completely lost and deep down he worries about a great many things.]
H- Healed? [Once (mostly) released from the crushing embrace he looks over to the gestured leg and then back to Kili, obviously surprised. A running theme today it seems.]
I suspect our... gracious hosts are behind this, surely. [He sniffs and pulls out the locket from his pocket, turning it over carefully in his hand.] It would certainly be easier if this was a dream, but I dare not cling to false hopes. No... No, I fear this is all very real.
[He holds up the locket, looking back at Kili.] Have you tried using this yet?
haha good!
How can it be real? Bilbo, there isn't even a mark where my wound used to be, and I know it was there. It nearly killed me.
[A look of dawning horror crosses his face.] ...Is that it, then? Are we all dead?
no subject
We are not dead so banish the thought. Besides, if we really are dead then what did I die from? Certainly not Smaug-- [Because he remembers very clearly watching the dragon fly away with the intent to burn everyone in Laketown away. Bofur, Kili, Fili, Bard...
He swallows dryly, shaking his head.] ... No. No we aren't dead. I imagine being dead would be much more peaceful, but I am far from being at peace right now. [At least he hopes so. What did he know anyways?
Bilbo moves away from Kili back to the bench where he left his map and holds it out for Kili to see.] Look, this is a completely new world! If I could just find a library maybe I could make better sense of all this...

Being inside is making him twitch so the brown wizard ventures outside, rummaging in his sleeves for the mushrooms he had stashed there earlier.] Oh where are they, ah no, I just had them!
[And that's when he spots Bilbo, peering at him for a moment before speaking, jabbing his staff in the hobbit's direction. What did Gandalf call him again? Ah yes, a hobbit!] Friend of Gandalf's, aren't you?
no subject
Um- Y-Yes... Bilbo. Bilbo Baggins. We've met once before... It was a bit of a mess, I'm afraid. [During the Orc attack before Rivendell.
Bilbo shifts in his seat, unsure, but finally settles on standing up to properly address the Brown Wizard.]
Is Gandalf with you?
no subject
It seems not, he must have been left behind. [The wizard said, wringing his hands together for a moment nervously. This whole thing set him on edge.] You wouldn't happen to know where we were, would you?
no subject
Bilbo reaches to take up the map from the bench and holds it out for Radagast to see.] I certainly wish I knew. I have never seen a map like this before, it is completely new to me- and that is saying something! [He coughs once, wrinkling his nose.]
You are the first... familiar face I have come across here.
no subject
I don't trust that fairy food either. Come, I have something you can eat, these are safe! [Radagast said with a toothy grin as he handed the map back to Bilbo before rummaging in his robe and producing a few squished mushrooms.] Try one, they're really quite good!
no subject
That throws him through a loop, leaving him just a tad confused and just a little irritated at the well-meaning Wizard. He waves a hand, trying to politely decline the offered mushrooms.] I-I'm fine thank you... No, but this is very serious! I have no idea where we are and...
