[No no, Archie would rather talk Shakespeare. He becomes visibly more animated.]

You can't have a favorite, not really, but I memorized The Tempest a few years ago. Anthony and Cleopatra I know good bits of, not that you want to hear me recite it or anything else, though I admit to being capable of a thrilling dramatic reading of Clark's Complete Handbook of Seamanship. Alas that Drury Lane, while practically home, was not my calling.

You're wasting your time with that.

[ is derek's helpful contribution. as far as derek's concerned, less time spent fiddling with elaborate pieces of jewelry and more time spent looking for a way out. a way home. for all derek's attempts, he's still not much for considering the long game. ]

We need to get back.

You could come away and live with me, Susan. I shall find somewhere safe, away from the grown-ups, and live there with the fairies as I used to in Neverland.

[personal profile] marksqueen 2014-03-17 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
[hey have one older sister finding you and grabbing you in a hug]

Lucy! Thank goodness. You're-- [she pauses, noting her appearance for the first time] You look taller.

[ He plants his hands on his hips as he lands on the table after his crowing takes him up high and walks over, staring her in the eye. ]

They are. [ Irritating and in need of a good hiding, perhaps, but still fairies and he will defend them to the end. A coldness seeps into his tone, sharp as the dagger which is unsheathed at her. ] If you say anything further that causes them harm, lady, I shall kill you here and now.

[ annabeth

she hears it at first, or thinks she does, but writes it off as hopeful hearing because there's no way. she just walked by there, already checked that side of the hall. and if she starts doubting herself now there's no way she's going to get out of this. no way at all.

but then she hears it again, and she swears, swears it's him. it's got to be. but she turns at the exact moment a group of people passes by between them. blocks her view of much of anything behind her, and her stomach drops. it's deja vu, blindly stumbling around tartarus, calling out into the darkness because percy, percy where are you, percy?

annabeth turns back around to continue, once again telling herself she's hearing things. how can it be him if she's not even sure he's here? she clenches her jaw and keeps moving, ready to push back through the crowd when something stops her. a tugging in her gut, just to check one more time, just once, and she's going to feel so embarrassed when she realizes it's stupid but if she just- ]

Percy? [ no, that's him, he's right there and she's dropping any and all social graces to shove her way through to him. someone mutters something to her and she nearly reels around to knock them out. almost, but doesn't, because that would take time away from getting around these people and

there.

she all but launches herself at him, her arms going around his neck and her face in his shoulder. ]

Yeah, same here.

[isaac lets out a frustrated sigh, jaw clenching as he searches his mind for a response. he's not okay, he hasn't been just "okay" for a while now. it's hard to even form the right answer, especially here. and derek isn't exactly the person that isaac would open up to. they just don't sit right together anymore- he's not sure if they ever did.

instead of answering right away, he opens his arms to motion to the room -- the situation -- and presses his lips into a thin line.]

Oh, you know. Just great.

[personal profile] marksqueen 2014-03-17 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's, um... that's quite all right, thank you. My siblings and I used to do quite a bit of sailing. I don't think I need a handbook recited to me.

[Emma's not about to turn her back on someone who seems to see things her way, regardless of age.]

Imps are never a good sign, and these fairies are like nothing I've ever seen.

[She's used to them being dressed as nuns, however, so that's not saying a whole lot.]

Think they'll slip and we'll get a glimpse of what this place is really like? Generally speaking, if anything seems too good to be true, it probably is -- and being thrown a freaking party after being kidnapped is definitely too good to be true.
counterbalanced: ([lww] Oh do come off it!)

My sword will suffice for now, until we can find a bow for you. [Edmund, though far from relaxed at least has a better grasp of the situation now. Enough to let his dry wit surface for a moment.]

I realised I'd forgotten my torch in Narnia, but I suppose I would be glad for it, if it means I have my sword instead.

Alina Starkov • Grisha Trilogy ( 1 )

[personal profile] sankta 2014-03-17 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
[ Was it an inevitability that the sun summoner would end up in the court of light? Alina was certainly getting tired of all thing light or dark these days, regardless. But she was here, all the same. Dragged into a world she wasn't even sure how to process.

Especially at a party.

Alina had just been at a party. She could still see bodies strewn about as the shadows descended on everyone that had been there. People she had once called friends torn open and cradled by love ones sobbing for life to return to them. Scared children she should have sent away but foolishly listened to. Queens crumbling as sons were murdered before their eyes.

She wasn't really that hungry anymore.

Eventually, Alina made her way from the edge of the party and tried to mingle. Tried to meet people, and make friends. Or allies. Friends were a luxury she hadn't had in a long time. But she should know the people she would now live with. Even if she wasn't the most cheerful person. ]

Nice way to welcome us. [ She doesn't sound like she really means it. ]

[personal profile] marksqueen 2014-03-17 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
It's kind of you to offer, but I couldn't accept. I need to be on the look-out for my siblings. They need me.

[maybe this is why she reminds you of Wendy, Peter. She does have a similar "mother" thing about her]

[ He's already moving, not so much crossing the distance between them as circling her, watching her, looking for any sign she might flee. She's run from him before, after all. Even now, after she'd told him she would come to him, that she would join him, that she would do as he wanted, he's still uncertain of her. He can't trust her no matter how much he wants to. ]

I just arrived. I was dragged quite suddenly from our little conversation, and brought to this…other world.

[ His gaze flicks briefly away from her, and his expression highlights his distaste for all he sees. Is this what a modern world would look like, if left to its own devices? Filled to the brim with machines filtering out coffee, and folding boxes that people type into?

His people, the Grisha, call ordinary humans the Otkazats'ya. It translates as 'the abandoned', because the power of the Grisha does not belong to them. Their lives are bereft of it, of ever knowing anything like it. This entire world is abandoned, as far as he's concerned - trapped between human technology, and the weak, almost playful magic of these faeries. To think, that is what passes for power here. Pathetic.
]

But have no fear. I will return us, Alina, to the place we both belong. Is the tracker here? Or any of your other…friends, shall we call them, for lack of a better word.

Is this a reoccurring habit of yours? [ that sounds worrisome. not concerning enough to make him want to bring the young man to a doctor but it sounds like it can be a headache in the making, on a personal level. Dyson's arching an eyebrow and pointedly staring, with some level of detachment. he's been here for awhile. watching every new person freaks out starts to lose its touch after the first twenty.

his patience hasn't gone anywhere, but he finds that some of them (so far) enjoy testing its limits.

[ well, derek, you wanted to try to find someone from beacon hills, right?

did you want to find stiles running face first into you and spilling his drink all over the place?

because that's what just happened.

one minute, stiles had been across the room, but he'd been distracted by something, sharp eyes following a fairy across the room to see if she was putting anything weird in the drinks, as if this was some kind of fairy cult party (he would not be surprised), but that led to him not watching where he was going, and therefore, straight into derek's escape route. there's a splash and the goblet ends up half on his shirt and half on derek's, and stiles swears, pulling his t-shirt away from himself stickily, muttering: ]

Oof--jesus christ, people need to watch where they're friggin--dude, I am so--[ and then he actually bothers to look at who he ran into, and stiles' mouth curves into a confused frown, sounding half confused and half irritated. Susan! [ She peers up at her sister, beaming quite happily, but then there is the height issue. Wait -- Susan looked a bit different, acted a bit different altogether than what she remembers. ] O-oh. Well, I suppose I am. I don't think Edmund will like it all, do you?

[personal profile] marksqueen 2014-03-17 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
True. The best way to make a person lower their guard is to pretend being friendly with them.

[yeah, that tactic has been used on her family before. Not amused]

If these fairies are like the ones in stories, the last thing we'll want to do is eat their food.

[ Elsa actually tried to pick a spot a little closer to the fire, just in case she accidentally, ah, frosted anything, hoping the heat from the hearth would melt it just as quickly as she formed it. but politeness resulted in her giving up her spot to someone that looked a little chilly, and so now she's sitting at the other end, pretending her very queenly sensibilities aren't completely offended by the boy who is sitting on the couch improperly. but it reminds her of something Anna might do, something she likely did do when they were much younger and she felt like bugging her for playtime, so instead of being huffy about it, she just. tries to pretend she's perfectly comfortable with him right there. looming.

no, not looming, don't be silly. he's here to listen to the man's story, the same as she is. he's not even paying any attention to her-

she doesn't start, but her eyes blow wide because is the top of that cake frozen? did she do that and not even realize it? oh. oh no.
]

Oh. It's alright, really.

[ and she almost apologizes for freezing the cake that he dropped on her, but that would be ridiculous of her, wouldn't it? so instead she just plucks it up off of the lap of her skirt, brushing off the stray crumbs ( and onto the floor, how rude of her, but she's not really focusing on that ) and holding up the little cake for him to take. only by then, she's managed to freeze over the bottom half of the cake ]

[ she probably passes him at some point, notices a figure off in the corner and writes it off as her brain playing tricks on her. because there's no way, no way at all, and it's only after she's had a little to eat and a little to drink and has found percy, that she's comfortable enough with even considering the idea.

and then curiosity gets the better of her, and when she's got a free moment and can still see percy from where she walks off to the side, just to check. just to make sense. and when she makes it there, the figure is gone, and her eyes are scanning as she walks- the reason why she all but runs into him.

I take it you haven't seen anyone else around, either?
